Servicing...Warranty...don't need Honda or Honda Parts

This settles it once and for all... below is a reply on the subject from Honda HQ.You don't need Honda sevicing or even Honda parts to keep your warranty intact ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Thank you for contacting Honda.Although we always recommend that you have servicing carried out by a Honda dealership, you do not need to do this in order to maintain the warranty. You can take your car to an independent garage for servicing, however you will need to ensure that they use Genuine Honda Parts, or parts of an equal quality to maintain the warranty. If you have any further questions or feedback please complete our feedback form @ www.honda.co.uk or call our Honda UK Contact Centre on 0845 200 8000.Kind regardsDougHonda UK Contact Centre

The garage may also need to register with Honda to ensure it knows the service requirements.

This has been European Law for some time. All manufacturers must make their servicing requirements available to independants and as long as the independant has the servicing details of the car and uses genuine parts/ equivilant quality your warranty is OK.

A lot of franchised dealers cut costs by not using genuine parts. For example Mercedes insist on Mobil 1 oil though a lot of dealers use what they call an equivilant oil.

I know it costs more but I will always used a franchised dealer to get the 'unknowns' secretly tended to.

Honda will be in possesion of which nuts and bolts have a tendency of working loose, etc which a privateer probably won't know about.

agreed but i would rather trust my car with someone like ABP who probably know more about the car then Honda. I know you get a dealer stamp but whos to say they are even carrying out the work they say they are - they are called stealers
when my dad sent in his volvo to the dealer for a service, i saw it out and about being driven pretty hard and let my dad know, when he questioned the dealership they denied it and obviously i could not prove it so we had no comeback.

1) You think?? they know more about the car than the company that built it??
2) Only by people like you.

How would you define 'parts of an equal quality' ???

well considering dealerships didnt build the car then yes, the amount of times i have asked someone in a dealership a question about a car and they have not known is unbelievable, that does not instil confidence in me and im sure other people have had the same experience.

ABP have worked on CTR'S for 6 or whatever years and i have seen the quality of there workmanship, as well as there professionalism. i could trust that they would not rag my car around while its there. (generalism and i know this would not happen in every dealership)

And yes people like me call you stealers because at the end of the day, like any other business you are out to make as much money as you can. nothing wrong with that, its just a play on words mate, don't take it to heart

i didn't go to a honda dealer for my last service, and have had warranty work done since with no trouble!

but! i think its still worth using genuine honda parts because it would be difficult to prove that any after market products were of equal quality if anything went wrong!

1)With all due respect their are two sides to an argument. The example used here is an independant that deals with CTR's day in day out. A franchised dealer may only see one or two a week in amongst the 100's of cars they work on.

Also a Honda dealer is a franchise and in reality has a very contrieved if any connection to the people who made the car. Infact the information they recieve from Honda is exactly the same as that Honda have to supply to an independant if requested.

Most Mcdonalds are franchises though I doubt many restaurant staff have the depth of knowledge the Home Economists who 'designed' the burgers have regards it's make up.

Dealers arguments for using them are usually scare tactics rather than 'selling' themselves, hence terms such as stealer. If more dealers sold themselves rather than suggest concerns with the competition they would have a better reputation.

2) Being in the trade I would hope you know what is used to deem parts as equal quality. Again this is just a suggestion to undermine people exercising their right to free choice.

You (not aimed at anyone) spend thousands of pounds on the Honda car you want, and then look for cut price servicing deals with non Honda garages. But when it comes to some thing going wrong. You trail back to the Honda dealer wanting the work done for nothing.

as you will note i live in Leicester and even though i love driving my car, i have no intention in my life of communting 200 miles a day for work - so to answer your question, No i don't work for them
just using them as a example, i would trust my car with TDI north and CPL racing too

i dont think its about cutting costs! its about getting the best service for your money, in my case the service may cost £10.00 cheaper at the most but i know that i get a better more comprehensive service for the money, using all genuine honda parts, in a fully equiped garage by fully trained mechanics with many years experience!

You take it back to a Honda dealer because they are acting as the agent for Honda/ Honda UK for the warranty you paid for when purchasing the car. The warranty covers failure of a part due to a manufacturing/design fault!

I don't understand your comment. European law means the independant must follow the same service schedule as the dealer and the manufacturer/agent for the manufacturer must provide that information to an independent therefore protecting you as the consumer and the manufacturer as the provider of the warranty.

If using an independent the prudent thing to do is check they have registered with Honda UK.

I'm not aware of anyone chasing cut price servicing more exercising their right to choice and seeking what they deem value for money whilst ensuring the car they paid thousands for still recieves the manufacturers recommended maintainence.

.
That was put in place because Dealers used to insist that to keep your warranty in place you had to have the service done by a main Dealer

The way I think about this is that 1. If cost doesn't matter, then always go to the franchised dealer, because that way you'll always have a comeback against Honda one way or the other. 2. If cost is an issue, think about the bigger picture, when you come to sell it, not having the FHSH is a real killer. Especially if you trade in.
