Type R GT at the dealers

Hello All

I need a little help regarding a part ex price for My SEAT Leon Cupra R on a 55 plate and has covered only 13500 miles since new.

I am the only registed keeper from new and the car has a full SEAT service history. The car will be three years of age on the 1st of september and I am fancying a Milano red Type R.

I have not been to the dealers yet but hopefully will be having a look in a fortnight or so I was wondering if anybody could give Me a price on how much My car would be worth if I where to part ex her for a Type R GT.

The more info I have before I go to the dealer the better it will be for Me I think.

The car which is in the showroom is priced at 19,000 on the road what type of discounts are people getting at the moment.

This is My car at the moment.

Strange route this but if you go to Vauxhall's website, then in the owners tab at the top select Value my car. This opens a window to get a free Glasses trade price. This is probably the same information Honda will be using when working out a deal.

You can but try

If you make them an offer and they accept immediately then you've gone in too high.

Happy haggling!!!

Yeah, but then the car cost about £400 less than it does now.........Depends on what your after, plus some dealers are reluctant to give huge discounts if your part exchanging

Morning all

My wife and I eventually got round to going to the dealers yesterday in the showroom was a new Milano red type R at £19000 I ask if the garage would give Me a price on My SEAT.

The price I was thinking I would get for My Cupra R and the price the garage have offered Me are so far apart its unreal.

They have offered Me ten thousand one hundred for the SEAT and no discount at all on the type R I was totally shocked that after two and half years motoring in a SEAT I have lost seven thousand pounds.

Anyway I politely refused and walked out The garage manager followed Me out and said He is going to ring round and try and get a better price I should be hearing from them today.

I thought a realistic price for the SEAT would be twelve and a half thousand and would have to borrow seven thousand max but at the moment I would need over nine grand to borrow.

Thats probably what you would get for it Private, but its the previous Leon so that also goes against it. Dealers would take it off you for that and sell it for £12000/£12500. I didn't think they would budge on the price for the CTR, I know that the dealers I spoke with would only give discounts IF there was no part ex because if you part ex they then have to try and shift the car you've taken to them and there is no guarantees that it will be sold in a week or 20 weeks.

You'll probably find that the dealer will phone local Seat garages and see what they will take it off their hands for, but they usually offer less than what you have been offered from the dealer as a part ex. But I wouldn't be expecting anything near what you were expecting. I was offered £3k less than I actually got for my car.

I looked at a new Mini & a RX8 a few years back and was offered half the value of what other second hand Mini's were on the forecourt at and they had basic spec and more miles on the clock so I didn't even entertain them. The bloke from Mazda actaully confessed that they would take the car off me for the laughable price and put it on the market at double that and probably sell it in a week (as they were still really in demand at that point)

I do hope that they come back to you with a price nearer your expectations, have you thought abou sticking it on Auto Trader and seeing what interest you get?

I'm guessing that your Leon is the 1.8 T 20v Cupra R (225)? If so values are showing on What Car? as:

Dealer: £12,320
Private: £11,605
Part Ex: £11,400
Cost New: £18,055

Thats on a 05, 55 plate with 13,500 miles on it. Extras add little to the value and it would seem that the dearler is £1,300 off Part Ex, but defo looks like you wont get £12,500 for it. Sorry

Thanks for the info angie4m I think I will have another talk with My local garage I think My main problem is that I was not expecting to have to find £9000.

To be honest the Honda is in a different league to what I have purchased in the past maybe I should just bite the bullet and hope that the Honda will not depreciate as much as the SEAT in three years time.

Problem is that as soon as you drive a new car off the forecourt you have already lost money on it. Just be glad you don't have a Focus ST to be trading in as they are said to be worth only 35% of the inital alue after 3 years! But Also the CTR is said to be about 52% after 3 years so your going to have the same issues no matter what car you buy really. Well unless its something that has a supply and demand issue, which then helps the residules on the second hand market.

HI

It's all a game at the dealership they would'nt usually offer a discount on a new car unless it was part of a Honda marketing promotion but they have a margin on a new car that they can discount if they want your business. When they gave you a price for your seat did you just say thanks and leave or did you say I was hoping for at least £12,500 If you said the latter they would they would nearly always up there offer on your car usually after disappearing to make an imaginary call to a different dealer who was not available before. It's nearly always the case that the first px figure is low, they are running a business. You just need to be one step ahead, if they won't increase there offer go for some extras on the Honda included in the price, this way you will know that they could have given you more for yours. If you get some extras thrown in then really they have given you more for yours. There is a finite amount of discount available in any deal but how you achieve it is up to you either more for your car or extras on the new one, if they really want your business you will get something I'm certain of that. Don't be afraid to stand your ground even be prepared to walk away it can be a great help, remember you can close a sale as well as a sales exec.

Hi All

Just to let You all know that I am now a proud owner of a Milano red CTR well it should be delivered at the dealers for the bank holiday weekend.

I cannot wait to be honest I am like a kid on Christmas morning

I went back to the dealer and eventually got 11.300 for My car so I felt a lot more happy than the starting price of 10.100

Thanks angie4m

I am just counting the hours now or should I say days It took alot of friendly haggling to get to that figure but it turned out well in the end.

I must admit the Honda dealer was very friendly and not once was there the hard sale type atitude which I hate.

The experience was so much different from when I bought My Seat.

This is the very reason that I will never buy a new car. Let someone else take the hit on depreciation I say!

Hope all goes well with your new car though!

Indeed, but then I would always be wary of buying a performance car second hand for the fact its not going to have had one carefull, elderly lady owner who just gave it a run to the shops every tuesday.

type r engine loves to be thrashed

if i was to ever buy a second hand type R, as long as the previous owner waited for 10 -15 mins to let it warm up then drive it like it should be, i would prefer to buy that then one that hardly gets driven properley
although i aint worked out how you would know if the previous owner waited before ragging it, yet
