Which to get - Civic 2.2CDTi or Astra VXR
Well, titel says it all.
I have got a point finally of choosing between two cars. My 1st choice and want for a long time is the Civic SE 2.2CDTI in Milano Red which I can afford now and is rather tasty. Add in a Celtic Tuning remap = loads power and lots of bhp + good old diesel economy (I drive 80+ a day for work) as well as sexy looks and a really nice interior. Also availability of easy to fit (bolt/screw/clip on) parts like Type R spoilers/grille etc. The other day the leasing company offered a contendor... For the same price I can have a Astra VXR. That is I beleive the fastest production hot hatch in its class, over the megan and golf, at the expense of fuel economey. What do I choose? Please help me decide |

I think most people on here will say - Civic.
Although a VXR vs a 2.2 are two quite different cars, have you driven both? Also remaping a lease car? |

Only you can decide what is best for you. You have to test drive them both. I looked at the VXr at the same time as the Civic...........if your going to be spending a lot of time in your car then all I can say is cheap and nasty interior in the Vaxuhall! If you love the look of cheap plastic, you'll love it! If however you don't then you may have to check out the Civic's rather lovely interior

Yeah, I'll second Angie on this point. The Civic interior really is superb - the layout is spot on, it's super comfortable, it's just a really pleasant car to drive - and you can happily spend all day in it.

No brainer really, Civic everytime. I've got a 2.2 SE milano red with the trunk spoiler, just saving up for a remap. I had a vauxhal once, would never go back!

yea, thats what put me off the Astra 1.9CDTi SRI XP, really sexy looking like the VXR, but the asta interior is poop, which is why looked a bit higher and found the Civic ... maybe not quite as sporty looking but since I'm sitting inside it, the interior is as important as the exterior.
really was just looking for some extra advice, like if anyones owned the VXR and if it was worth the dull tacky dashboard for the exterior looks and performace. The more I think about it the more the Civic makes sense, hell its diesel which is lots more economy on the motor way. Yea, Civic it is!!!!! =) |

Seen and read quite a few motoring journos' opinions on the VXR. Very powerful apparently, but struggles to put the power down through the front wheels and lots of torque steer.

are you seriously having a dilemma with this??
sheesh. having worked with both and driven both, there is only one answer and it doesnt involve the words astra, vauxhall or VXR. Yeah, loads of power, but loads of torque steer, rattles, squeaks, depreciation..... need i go further??? |

You come onto a Civic owners forum and expect a straight answer, lol
I had a remapped Leon Cupra (about 220bhp) before my 2.2 civic and I'd been caught out once or twice booting it on the motorway whilst I'm level with them. |

Hey,
I had a similar dilema, Astra Sport Hatch CDTi or Honda Civic Type S GT 2.2 CDTi. A friend has just brought himself the Astra which I drove and it does feel very nice, but it's an Astra In the end and I pick it up tomorrow Oh and I have a bigger boot to, a major requirement for me as I fly RC model helicopters and some aint small. Like me I am sure you will be very happy in your decision, I'm getting restless now with the wait Ian |

youre more than 50% committed to a civic judging by your registering your interest here and seeking unbiased opinion
Make up the extra 49% by taking a test drive! Good luck with your choice - my experience to date - excellent! Except the weak paint jobbie. |

type r
If you are thinking of getting the VXR you must be clinically insane and to compare it in any way to a 2.2 diesel doesn't help, surely you would look at Type R if performance was a requirement

If you search i have a previous post about this. But i was comparing the 2.2civic to the 150bhp astra diesel. Thats abit of a better comparison!!
Having test drove both civic and astra i came to the following conclusion- If you like to look at your car from the outside and not drive it, the astra probably has better looks. The minute you sit in the car it does have the same feel of quality. As Angie says, it looks cheap. And it doesnt have as many toys as the civic. And not to mention the depreciation!!!!!!! Bloody hell the astra is bad. Civic holds it value depends on the spec/colour. Go civic, you wont regret it. |
