I owned an '06 Octavia 2.0T vRS petrol for 13 months before buying the CTR last year. It was great car.
It cannot beat the CTR for outright 'get up an go' but it was a more comfortable ride (particularly at low speeds). I still miss having low-end torque at times. The handling was good (and I put this down to the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's - the factory fitted Conti's were very nervous in the wet when driving... 'spiritedly'! I cannot WAIT to get rid of the factory fitted Hankook's on the CTR and replace them with the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric's) but is not as sharp or precise as the CTR. When it comes to looks, the CTR is the obvious choice. Period. Space and practicality? Octavia. No question. Would I recommend the vRS? Absolutely. If you enjoy a good drive with lots of space in a car then it is certainly worth a test drive. I wouldn't swap my CTR though... |

I too nearly bought an Octavia vRS but the options list and the size of the car made me get a Civic.
No regrets at all BUT it was close, particularly as I already had a Fabia vRS |

Wow!-What an engine.
Drove the Octavia on Saturday and was hugely impressed by the engine. it was the 1.8 petrol and is supercharged and turbocharged. this is the best 4 cyl engine I have driven in nearly 40 years of driving. Diesel like torque from 1500-6000 and 6 cyl smooth and quiet and very punchy. Zero'd the mpg computer and I got 34mpg for my 40 odd mile test drive and I did use the full rev range.
Ride was more compliant than the civic but handling and steering nowhere near as good as civic.. interior quality and style not as good as civic and exterior boring. it was great to drive and the engine nearly sold it to me but when i look at the civic interior and exterior I still go wow and I know it has to be a civic! Dave. |

Why is nobody comparing the 2.0TDI vRS with the 2.2 i-ctdi. Surely these are the preferred for performance and practicality models across both cars?
![]() I've got another year to go before I seriously start to consider replacing my Civic. Up 2 now, it's either an Octavia vRS diesel or a BMW 123d.... Or, if my business continues to do well maybe even a 335d or 535d. |
