Wonder what car that is that sounds like a combine harvester...? Can't be the Honda 2.2 i-CTDi engine... as that sounds nothing like a tractor engine...?

Maybe a Ford diesel or Vauxhall, Renault, VW...? I think you must be confused with another car.

Go for the 2.2 mate. Here's a pic the wife took on a recent rip down to my parents in Llanharan. As you can see we'd already done 126 miles and the range left in the tank was 509 meaning a thoeretical range of 635 miles. You wouldn't get that with a petrol! When we finally got home after doiing the 420 mile round trip we still had just over 1/4 of a tank left

Agree you wouldn't get that with a Petrol but I managed to get roughly 470 miles from a tank of fuel by being good I may add in a Type R but on a short run like the post writer and in stop start traffic there would be no danger I would get that!

Thats pretty good for a Type R that. On a short run i think both petrol and diesel may work out about the same depending on the traffic

Yeah, but it requires not to V-tec (well every once in a while) and keeping to the speed limits....oh and the CC helps. It was on a trip from Essex to Edinburgh took just under 5 and a half hours was in no rush, just wanted to see what I could get if I was good girl

But more than likely the 1.8 and the 2.2 will be the same on such a short trip.

sounds like another excuse to dig this pic out

73mpg over 120odd miles

Took a lot of careful right foot control, and not something I would care to repeat, but it can be done!

Theoretical tank distance of about 800 miles...

Looks good...and tempting!

Just out of interest, how much does it cost to fill up a 2.2 diesel at the moment? (i know prices differ from area to area)

There's 2 around here for sale, a silver one and a bronze one....but i want a black one....i think i'll wait to find a black one!

Well its a 50 litre tank. How much is Diesel down your neck of the woods. Say for instance you fill it up and it takes about 42 to 45 litres. Its 116.9p here (seen as petrol is 114.9p down your way i'm guessing diesel is 123.9? ish) So that would be between just a little over £49 and £52.60. If You are paying 123.9p then £52.04 & £55.75

Yeh it is 124.9...at the moment anyway! It just looks scarry when you need to go and fill up with diesel!
With diesel prices so much more than petrol, will i still get more mpg out of the diesel?

(sorry if i ask stupid questions but i don't kow much about cars!)

I'll leave that question upto the boys with the 2.2's as I have a 2.0l petrol..... I would suspect that you will still get better mpg from the 2.2 than the 1.8 but you only do short journeys so the car won't really warm up enough to get the mpg right up like some have had.

It's costing me about £60 a tank now (I fill RIGHT to the top!).

And yes - the diesel is better on long, motorway journeys. (As opposed to roundabouts, cross roads and town centres)
