What are considered Difficult conditions?

In civic service book, which is in polish, but I can understand enough to get by and always check with my wife, it said something that got me thinking.

I have now driven 10000km since getting my car in December and in the service book it says to service it at 10000km or 6 months but only if driven in difficult conditions. What would be considered difficult conditions? I am interested in your opinions.

I think it's often prolonged working in temperature extremes. And maybe really dust environments, hence clogging filters up quicker.

Anyhow, difficult conditions refer to those where the atmosphere is too dusty and hot climate, with frequent start-stops like in heavy traffic. You could make things harder for the engine if you drive at high revs in such conditions.

Are these the only things that would be considered 'difficult conditions' ?

Follow the Severe Conditions Maintenance Schedule if the vehicle is driven MAINLY under one or more of the following conditions:
  • Driving less than 8 km (5 miles) per trip or, in freezing temperatures, driving less than 16 km (10 miles) per trip.
  • Driving in extremely hot over 35 °C (95 °F) conditions.
  • Extensive idling, or long periods of stop-and-go driving.
  • Trailer towing, driving with a car-top carrier, or driving in mountainous conditions.
  • Driving on muddy, dusty, or de-iced roads.
NOTE: If the vehicle is driven OCCASIONALLY under severe conditions, follow the Normal Conditions Maintenance Schedule.

Thanks for that pottsy. Having been shouted at by the dealer of my Fabia Skoda for missing a service at the same sort of time I wanted to make doubly sure. I had called the dealer and he had assured me that we didn't need to have it serviced but it's good to do some investigation sometimes.

Thanks again

So, if you drive a car that is NOT your Civic you are driving under severe conditions.

THat should be more dangerous than cheating on your wife :P
