the electronics should be okay as long as you do not use it until it is 100% dry, if you are lucky enough to recover it, take it apart and let it dry overnight, do not be tempted to press any buttons until it is completely dry.

Good luck!

Hello whipitup, there is a cheaper key option available. You can buy a plain spare key that does not have the remote buttons on it (same as on the older civic ). Still comes in at a slightly less expensive £59.00 (programmed). Be careful buying blank keys because after trying numerous locksmiths i've still to find one that can cut these keys successfully every time.

As it seems you are a dealer, can you explain how the hell Honda can justify charging it's customers nearly £200 for a key?

Even the £35 (+VAT) for a 2 minute coding session is way over the top.

It strikes me as at least taking advantage, at worst almost criminal.

As you can tell, I'm not very happy with Honda at the minute.

Still think you should get the bucket out mate.

If not this seems a good option to me.

Ok whilst I sympathise with your situation neither I or any other Dealer have any input regarding parts pricing. What I can and will do is try and find the best/cheapest possible way of getting a customer out of a fix, either by finding an alternative or giving a little discount where possible.

We understand I'm sure, but even you must (even secretly ) agree 200 quid for a transponder and some metal is a bit of a 'rip', I know I'd feel mightily agrieved at having to pay that (I'm also glad you try to help your customers unlike some dealers, not just honda ones either....), still at least Honda's not like ford, lose the red key and you don't get another!!!!!!

ATB,
Tom

I've bought this:

UNCUT HONDA ACCORD CIVIC JAZZ CRV ACCORD REMOTE KEY FOB on eBay, also, Mini, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 27-May-08 16:55:59 BST)

I'll get it cut at Timpson's in Sale then get Arnold Clarke to code it.

I'll keep you posted.

Did the seller get back to you and assure you it is compatible?

There is a flip side to the £200 key argument though, I know none of you chaps will apreciate this but in the past we used to get customers coming in saying they'd lost there keys could we order a new one. I'd ring them a few days later to tell them the key had arrived only to find that they had found there old one and didn't need a replacement thanks very much and I'd be stuck with a useless £30-£40 key. These days when I tell folk its gonna cost £175 they go and look first before ordering !
