I have just insured with Bell (same co as Elephant who I was with previously) and I paid £239 Full comp, protected NCB, 20k miles per year. Elephant renewal was about £370. Bell were able to get and confirm all my details off Elephant's database.

Esure, so far so good £27 a month fully comp, £50 excess. Many years no claims (protected) no speed or other driving convictions (not caught me yet ha ha ha). you do need at least 4 years no claims though, but we all have to start somewhere!

Yes they do, I've never known an insurance company not ask for proof of NCB.

Em think you may find that has something to do with the car? Now you drive a 1.8 Type S in Tangerine do you not? Which means you've not had the car a year so what were you driving before?

If it wasn't another 1.8 Type S from the current range then there is your answer.

You saying what you have is like me saying I expected my insurance to go down when I changed from a Mini to a Type R for example. Was never really gonna happen as they were different cars, different ages and different insurance groups!

I get the feeling you don't know a lot about insurance and how things like post code, miles per year, occupation, useage of the car ie social and pleasure or social, pleasure and commuting, age, insurance group and car etc effect the price you have to pay.

And can I also say you may wish to enquire who would insure you IF you decided to go for any of there modifications you have been talking about in other threads in the site, bodykits, bigger alloys, leather interior, performance mods which you have been talking about would have to be advised to the insurance company and no doubt a hefty increase in premium would be incurred. If you did mod the car then in the event of the car being damaged or written off you may would find the insurance company wouldn't pay to repair or replace items which weren't advised to them and sometimes they may fail to pay out as you have failed to comply with their terms and conditions of the policy.

Very good advice Angie. IMO if you are going to mod your car (I looked at chipping a previous car) then pluck up courage and buy a copy of Max Power, there are adverts for specialist insurers amongst the features on Saxos with nitro etc. Some of the insurance companies in there are not too bad for modified cars. They were a lot cheaper than telling my (at the time) current insurer that I was upping the power of the car by 25%.

Be careful, I just rang bell, and they don't cover glass roofs or the rear perspex spoiler on most cars (they do on ours because it is standard), however as long as the glass roof is standard (i.e on an EX or a S GT) then it should be covered but on any other model it is NOT covered!!!!!

Bit off topic but ....
.... Glass roof is not standard on EX only ES - its an option on the EX if you get the leather upholstery

Yeah you know what I meant though it's only covered if it comes standard not as an Optional extra.....

I'm with Privilege (part of Direct Line) - found it competitive and very easy to deal with - UK call centre and no hanging about on the 'phone for ages when you 'phone them (unless I've just been lucky!).

Sorry - no idea what they are like with younger drivers (I now qualify for Saga!)

Insurance

As a company car driver since I was 18 I have never had to get my own insurance until now (pick up my car week sat)

I have used the insurance search technique as recommended on the moneysavingexpert.com website.

The best so far is £293 fully comp with zero no claims at Bell, and I have 3 points. Based upon 20,000 business miles and 10,000 private miles

Although they do give me some discount based upon 5 years of no accidents through work (supported by letter from HR)

And of course I am over 40

Steve

Non std alloys also need to be reported to insurance companies too.
