Which Options?
I'm now looking at what options there are and if they offer value for money.
Therefore I'd be interested in knowing what everybodies thoughts are on the following options Space Saver wheel - Is it worth bothering with? Rear Parking Sensor - Do you really need these? Option packs (City, Image,Prestige, Concert) - Are they worth the money? Towbar - Fixed or removable? HFC - Is it worth it or should I go for aftermarket? IPOD adaptor - is this worth it? Thanks guys |

Personally I don't think the Image Pack is any where near worth the £1500 that Honda quote for it. However!! If you can get it included in the deal at a good reduced price, it makes such a difference to the car, especially the 5-door! In fact I doubt I'd buy another 5-door without it!
Out of the others you mentioned I'd be quite tempted to go for the parking sensors. I didn't and I've come across so many situations where I wish I had, there's no doubting rear visibility in the Civic is poor and anything thats going to help is bound to be worthwhile. As far as the iPod connection is concerned, the general concensus on this forum seems to be avoid it. Functionaility is very limited, I just stick to mp3 CDs. There's a good review of the Honda iPod connection by PJR here - Honda Ipod Connector Review |

I really cant understand why anyone needs parking sensors, you use the mirror or turn and look out if the rear window when reversing, and if you checked there is nothing behind before, you reverse the rear window is just a couple of inches from the rear of the car, its not difficult. (I just know im going to get stick for this)

Sorry Guys I must be a wuss but I need Parking sensors and I don't mind admitting it
To me they are just a help when getting into a tight space or reversing towards something - obviously you have to keep watching what's going on around you even with the sensors. |

Space Saver wheel - Is it worth bothering with?
Didn't bother, I actually prefer to have the extra space in the boot. Its a risk, but you get 3 years recovery with the car (well I did anyway) Rear Parking Sensor - Do you really need these? These came as standard on my EX, they're OK but I've never really had to put them to the test. Option packs (City, Image,Prestige, Concert) - Are they worth the money? Didn't see the point in lining Honda's pockets further, I don't think they do anything for the car imho. Towbar - Fixed or removable? Don't need one, I have nothing to tow. HFC - Is it worth it or should I go for aftermarket? I've used the one that came with my EX a few times, it's OK but if I had to use it regularly I think I'd look at moving the MIC to the right hand side of the light panel as the system or doing this fix. IPOD adaptor - is this worth it? I got this fitted at half price. It works OK for me, but I listen to Audiobooks mainly so I don't have to do much in the way of changing tracks etc. I just created the necessary Playlists, put my audiobooks into the first one and plugged it in. I'm using my old iPod Mini, which has a knackered battery so I just leave it in the car all the time, my book starts playing from where it left off when I start the car. For music I generally use MP3 CDs simply because it's easier and I can see the track info on the SatNav screen. |

Rear Parking Sensor - I've got them, and find them really good, albeit a little expensive. Depends what sort of car you are used to, and how you find the rear visibility. Option packs (City, Image,Prestige, Concert) - Can't comment, but have recently bought the trunk spoiler only (which comes as part of the Image Pack IIRC) Thir really improves the look of the rear of the car. Towbar - Can't comment, don't have a need for it. HFC - Don't need this either IPOD adaptor - IMO not worth the full price, but if you can get a discount off it then it is worth it. Lots of people complain about the limited functionality, but as long as you accept what it can and can't do it may be the right solution for you. I fitted mine myself after buying it from Holdcroft Honda. Also a link in the wiki to the functionality of the iPod connector. Honda supplied iPod link - Civinfo Wiki |

Space Saver wheel - Is it worth bothering with? - Depends on how often you plan to have a puncture. Rear Parking Sensor - Do you really need these? - They do really help. I have them. I am glad I do. Option packs (City, Image,Prestige, Concert) - Are they worth the money? - Concert - no. The other are a matter of what you think...some are expensive but very nice (Image..). Towbar - Fixed or removable? - Fixed is less maintance. Removable does need to be lubricated from time to time. HFC - Is it worth it or should I go for aftermarket? - You get one in the EX. If you are not buying a EX you may want to look at a Parrot rather than the Honda optional one. IPOD adaptor - is this worth it? - The Honda one...no. Have a look at Connects2 in the Wiki |

Parking sensors definitely, I find them very effective!
I do really like the image pack, but at £1500.00 its too much IMO, if you can get it cheaper or free then defo. |

Had my Civic for just over 10 months now. For what its worth, here's my two cents worth...
IMHO No! I don't like space savers on principle. I only get a punctures at the start of a long journey with a short time to do it in! They never feel right and I struggle to keep to the imposed speed limit. You can't fit a full sized wheel in the boot (easily), so the tyre sealant is the only option for me. The tyre sealant works well BTW! Yes, very much so! Given the limited rear visibility with the Civic, rear sensors are very useful. Honda standard ones are good because they come pre-fitted before delivery. Other manufacturers can provide sensors more cheaply. Quote:
Play with the Honda web based option configurator to see which is the best option for you. Don't have one, can't help. Like parking sensors, if you really want one from day one, the Honda original works very well. I have one fitted to my car and am very happy with it. Are there cheaper options out there? Yes. However, you either need to fit them yourself or find a good fitter. Take your pick! Based on advice from this forum, I didn't go with the Honda version. Functionally, it's quite limited. I have a Dension Ice Link which works really well. However, it took me several weeks to source the bits and find a good ICE fitter to fit them for me (I didn't want to start ripping the Civic console apart this early in the car's life). |

The law of S#d says I only ever get punctures when I'm in a hurry and have a long way to go. Space savers limit your speed and always feel funny to drive. This means that I want to get the space saver off ASAP, but the afore said law always kicks in and I end up rushed off my feet and don't get time to get the puncture repaired. My ideal solution, by a long way, would be to have a full size spare wheel and tyre. But experience has shown that the tyre sealant seems to work very well and I'm a lot more confident with it than I used to be. |
