Subaru Forester
Just bought a top of the range Subaru Forester 2.0 XEn and does it make my Type S seem poor in comparison! The build quality of the Subaru is higher, and though the engine does not seem as powerful it is a much more mature and enjoyable driving experience. My love affair with the Civic is over!

So have you partex'd the Civic?
I do like Subarus, especially with the winters we get here. Build quality is very nice. The things that have put me off are: 1) Price 2) Fuel consumption Did you get the new one, or a good deal on the old one? |

I got the 2007 model with 27 miles on for a great price; its got heated leather, electric roof, sat nav for same price as my type s. Had it for 1200 miles and its delivering between 29 - 34 mpg which is not bad as my diesel civic type s (which Ive kept) only does 42-43. Quantum leap in build quality too.

3 door civic to 5 door 4x4 SUV ??? Interesting choice
The subaru is a nice car perhaps not one of the best suv's on the market but not far off the mark - it should last you a good few years ( only sting in the tail being the servicing costs according to some folk) Be interested to see what you think of the subaru in 6 months ( just curious Last edited by Brodick; 16th June 2008 at 16:24. |

I bought the type S diesel because It gives me the combination of what I want from a vehicle, namely the ability to go round corners quickly and safely, provide 'instant' and effortless acceleration when I want it,brilliant economy and running costs, great looks and trouble free reliability. If I should ever need a 'jeep' type vehicle, which I can't see I ever should,a Subaru's probably as good as any of the others |

Been quoted £164 per service and Subaru parts are cheaper it seems. Part-exed another car and kept the Type S (for the time being). The Forester paint work is better too; doesnt have the bird egg mottled paint effect on the bonnet which the Honda had after the same mileage. |

Thanks the Forester is less in your face than most other 4x4s; it is a slightly raised estate in my opinion. I agree that the Type S diesel has a fantastic engine but the ride and handling are nowhere near as smooth as the Forester; the Civic is reliable and looks good I agree but the paintwork? Dash? Economy? Are they top notch? After 8300 miles in my Type S, I think it is a good car but not great. We'll see what the Forester is like in 6 months. I did test a CRV but it is pretty average inside, though it has a handsome exterior. My wife says the Forester is a man's car and she has now adopted the Type S as hers! |

Justr went to buy a boot liner for the civic. Asked for £65! Paid £35 for one for the all wheel drive estate Forester. Mats likewise were half the price too; are we being conned by Honda?

Thank's for that Brodick, but here the price list is the same as a BMW one... I've read a test about the new boxer diesel from Subaru. Has been quoted as one of the best diesel engine by most of the journalist (the same ones who likes the Honda one and not the VW I wish you all the best SW65 with your new ride, and I hope your wife is more than happy with her S Type now ... |

Thanks l noel. We are moving to the far east on 25th July (Norfolk coast) and my commute to work will be 0.8 of a mile and my wife's a deadly 4.1 miles, hence the lack of concern about fuel economy on the Forester. After 3 years, it will have about 3000 miles according to my calculations. May even consider walking to work???
