Yes I saw this too, and told Howards this, my deal was OK, perhaps not hugely stellar (my own naivety perhaps plays a part here, but it was way better than the deal i had on the previous car, up at congresbury) but they did chuck in some extras (money off the rear sensors and the usual things like tank of diesel, tax, etc). In the end, I couldn't face traipsing over to Rylands, even though it's not far away. The deal probably equalled out in a way. Btw Dave, I'm in Clevedon, but my family is Portishead thru & thru |

The local dealer in Salisbury is having an "event" on new cars, some good discounts to be had but the trade in of my 2007 diesel ES (NHB) is down at sub 10k. Apparently most Civic dropped £650 in Glass's last month. That was pretty average across the piece before anyone goes on an anti-Honda rant.

car is worth...
I sold mine this week.
2007, sport 2.2 I tried 7-8 stealers, as dis Vw who were working on my behalf the worse was £9000 and the best £1000, most Honda dealers offered £9550. You all know how much the screen price is, glass guide is out of the window as any dealer. Be warned!! your car is only worth what someone is willing to pay, and at the moment people don't have the money. Try it phone your dealer and pretend to want to sell. you will be angry.... |

I had a look at the new Jazz yesterday, and didn't like it. My wife had a Jazz 1.4 sport prior to the Civic. The new Jazz interior just lacks the quality and finish of the old one. As a matter of interest I asked the salesman for a PX price on my Civic against a 1.4ex Jazz.
My Civic is 2 years old 1.8 SE with 17'' sport alloys, front fogs, immaculate NHB. With 11,000 miles on the clock. He offered me 7.5K. Needless to say I will not be buying another new car yet! |

Well after reading right the way through this thread I can say I believe NH Dan when he says he only made £180 on a car and that will be before all the other factors of running the garage are taken off. Dealers have back end bonuses especially on New cars and if they hit their targets they might receive say £300-£500 back end money, some dealers literally have to earn this money to survive. Dealers with larger Used car forcourts can usually survive through these by buying cars at the right price so they can sell them at competitive prices later but like everything its a fine balance, you have to give enough to get the deal and the car but can't pay too much otherwise the p/x could be on the forcourt for 60+ days costing the dealer money. A £1500 mark up on a Used car is not unreasonable, a service, valet, refurb costs, warranty (which cost dealers 250-400 for 12 months), vat element all have to come out of this and thats before any discount or over allowance on a p/x. A Used car will usually always make more than a New car and some dealers really just sell New to keep the franchise and manufacturer happy whilst trying to retain profit in Used cars, without the franchise they would just be like any other car supermarket or Used car outlet, the franchise does give the dealer credibility and in turn the customer more peace of mind.

You always get screwed when when part exchange your car, the dealer must also make a profit! I paid £20k for my car with the extras and now have 13,000 miles on it, been quoted £14,000 on the guide. I suppose that a private sale I could get £2000 more. You are better off keeping the car will its 5 years old and then sell it for around £8-9000, get your moneys worth out of it!

I recently checked trade in prices here in Norway for my 1.8 sport 2007 model (because I'm in need of more boot space). It has 12.400 miles on the clock. New, it costed NOK 300.000 (including extras like trailer hitch, roof rack, winter wheels etc.). The car alone costed about NOK 265.000.
Trade in price at the same dealer as I bought the Civ new - against a brand new Skoda Octavia - was NOK 180.000... Looks like a better option is to buy a roof box... Or perhaps a trailer! |

I am considering changing my Jazz to a Civic - I bought the Jazz in January this year for £6995 (06 plate, 12k on the clock).
My local Honda dealer offered me £5600 for it against a Civic 2.2 ES 57 plate (2008 car) with 8k on the clock priced at £13,500. That was after some haggling etc. However, I think the Civic is overpriced. Ryland honda have similar cars for £9,995 (although they are 2007 cars). If I can convince them to give me £5600 for the Jazz against one of those there will be a deal to be had - if not I think I'll get more life out of Jazz and see how things look in 6months or a year. Out of interest - what do people think about that? Presumably the Jazz will be probably worth another £1000/£1500(maybe even 2k?) less - but will a 1 year old Civic (which might even the be the facelift model by then) be going for £8,995 by then or will they still be hovering around the same price they are going for now? Obviously I could get a 2 year old Civic if I hang on to my Jazz for another year and that would be more proportional but I am thinking I'd like to get a Civic to keep for 5+ years (maybe even 10) so 1 year old would be best. I'm just trying to establish if I should cut my losses on the Jazz and get a Civic now or get more life out of Jazz and spend a bit more and get a Civic later. Also - I gather the niggly problems are only found on some 2006 cars - will any 2007 car be after these are fixed? Or only 57 plates? Thanks! |

There's a few threads that say the 2007 models are built better.
Not sure how long you should wait...because, yes, prices will drop (few months ago, a Civic Sport went for around £11-12k, now you can get an EX for less than that)...but then your Jazz will depreciate as well...not sure by how much though. The facelift civic will be out soon and affect the price of the current shape civic...so I'd probably wait a bit longer...up to you though...or what about selling privately, you might get a better price? |
