Super Guard!!
Hello
Just wondering, has anybody got Super Guard on your civic as an extra? If so, please tell me the price of it. I would imagine this will prevent easy chip's,and extra shine on the metal work |

Ive got supagard, I havent got any stone chips on my bonnet but I dont do that many miles (4700 since March). It does give it extra shine, makes it easier to clean, and you dont have to wax it for 3 years. There is also a guarantee on the paintwork, and when the interior is done aswell you have a guarantee on that too, so if you spill anything that wont come out, they replace it.
The price is roughly £195, but don't forget the good old auction site |

I have Supaguard on the outside of my old Civic, it does seem to do quite a good job in that it does seem easier to clean (just water is supposed to wash off dirt, which is does, but flies still stick around the front requiring a nylon pad to remove them!), but I'm not sure it is really worth the money I paid for it. It came with a small kit of cleaner/cream/cloths that is useful.
I would not say it is any better than polishing with Autoglym once a year as I have done with prevoius cars. Dealers charge quite a lot for what seems to be a special polish. You can buy it on ebay for around £10 to £15 and do it yourself, all you will lose is the guarantee. Most of these types of system require good preparation of the paintwork first, which is usually the most time consuming part! I expect there is a local car valeter who could do a very similar job for a fraction of the price. Cheers, |

not used superguard myself, but know of many who have
with a sweeping generalisation as a caveat... it seems to appeal most to owners who want their cars to come up nicely without going to shed loads of effort. Which doesn't mean I'm implying lazy, not caring etc etc, just people who perhaps have better things to do on a weekend than spend 3 or 4 hours (or more) cleaning and waxing their car. For an initial outlay, you can then get your car to appear clean and shiney with pretty much just a quick wash. However - for 'serious' car cleaners, it seems to be frowned upon as a 'quick and easy' fix - almost a cheat. And they will swear blind that if you really want your car to look good, there is no substitute to meguirs / swissol / autogleam / etc* And that trying to apply these on top of superguard is like trying to polish a proverbial... But, as mentioned above - preperation is everything - whatever route you take.** On my previous car, I paid someone (well known to the forum concerned) £150 to do a full prep job and wax on the car when it was just 3 weeks old. The difference (7 solid hours later!) was stunning And then I kept it that way with a regular regeme of wash and waxing Till I moved into town anyway * delete as appropriate ** several good washes, clay bar, wash, clay bar, wash, wax, wax admire |

Also if you keep the info on supraguarding some dealer and private buyers will give you more for your car because it sounds as you took care of it better.

Superguard , lifeshine, diamondbrite , jewelultra, silverseal, permarguard the list of dealer applyed paint protection is endless and they are all in the end just some form of polymer paint sealants. You can get much better results for a fraction of the cost and have enough products left to last 3-4 years.
You don't have to spend hours every week as you would only polish and seal every 4-5 months. And i think you still have to wash and use the preserver they supply in the kits and have yearly check-ups to maintain the warrenty . The main reason it sells is a lot of people don't want to / have the time to look after their cars and belive the dealer bull$h*t , unfortunatley there is not a product that will last 6-8 months let alone 2-5 years. In the end there is no substitute for proper car care Paint film protetion sites for Danko http://www.armourfend.com/ http://www.protint.com/3MPaintProtectionFilm.ivnu |

Just to echo what's been said, I have had Supaguard on another of my car's, and it was o.k. I then clay'd the car, and re-applied it myself, and it looks much better, water beads off nicely and looks shiney with just a wash. So in effect, I paid the dealer (£280) to wrongly apply the stuff ...
However ... There is no substitute to good car care, and since that experience (£300 later), I have always asked that the dealer does not polish the car or wash it on PDI, and then cleaned, polished, SRP (Paint Corrected) and then sealed my own car with AG Lifeshine from Ebay.(£20) I know I am a bit fussy when if comes to car detailing, but the results are great, and certainly the car shines ... even when it's dirty, and has no swirls And that's what I will be doing this weekend !!! You can get the same results as supaguard by using AG SRP then 2 coats of AG EGP ... and that is far cheaper ... damian |

Danko STOP don't do it!!
Super Guard is a rip off! It doesn't make a difference. It will only add value to your stealers wallet as they make most of their commission from selling you this crap! I fell for it when I bought my 350! I doesn't make a difference to the resaleability of your car even though they'll tell you it does! When have you ever seen a car advertised saying it has had super guard? The quality of it is crap and you have to keep reapplying it which is a pain in the arse! Save the £200 and buy yourself a present! P.S. It doesn't protect your paintwork, thats absolute rubbish. I fell for that one! You can still get chips on your car, it won't protect your car from that! Even though thats what they say! |

I think it is worth having but not at that cost. Buy it yourself off eBAy, and spend a Saturday applying it. That is about 5 times longer than the dealer (read: apprentice) would spend on it. It does help with the cleaning of the car afterwards, but as mentioned - to say it lasts years is a bit of a joke. |

P.S. I wouldn't get armourfend either. Although it does offer protection from chips etc, it looks ridiculous! Like someone has put loads of transparent sticky tape on your car and you can still see the outline of it!
It's actually quite funny..... unless you own the car with it on! There is some pretty decent advice in this thread. Read this thread on another forum too it'll give you some good advice. http://forums.350zukownersclub.com/i...&hl=superguard |

My parents has the Super Guard on their Merc, and everytime I clean both car's, there car is alot more nicer to clean, its alot smoother, because of the layer of super guard, and you can give it a quick clean, and it shines so much.
Cleaning the Civic isnt as enjoyable, because its more hard work, the water just stays on the paintwork, and you also get water marks left on it. This dosnt happen with the other car.(N) Oooh.. I dno, In a long run, I think It might be worth it, because after the finance, there's no baloon payment at the end, So, I can just keep the car. Hmm..... |
