Your Deals?? on the CTR

Hi Guys,

Didn't manage to get down to the Honda garage today for my test drive as I thought. I will have to wait till the weekend now which is another 5 days away. I hate this waiting game.

Anyways, for better preperation I just wanted to find out what deals you guys struck on your Civic Type R? i.e. what extras you got thrown in? I know every dealer offers different things when asked, I am just intrigued on how much they can give away!?

Your comments are much appreciated!

What deal do you want? Write down what you want and work out what you are prepared to pay for it and let the dealer wriggle and squirm until your price is met. Be realistic with a touch of optimism and hold firm until your deal is done and if the wont then walk away because there are lots of dealers out there eager for your money in the current financial climate.A 10 or 12% reduction should be achieved and remember that add ons and extras make lots of profit for the dealer.

You may get a better deal if you wait until August as the dealers will want to get rid of any pre-registered 08 plates before the 58 plates come out

checkout Honda Civic Hatchback 2.0 i-VTEC Type R 3dr Car Review Summary - What Car? and aim at this target price before starting to think about deals

Cheers mrh339. I am after the CTR GT on finance with Rage wheels (1250), iPod adapter (225), Posh Mats (90), Reverse Parking Sensors (400), City Pack (500), Knighthawk Black or Alabastic Silver (380). Thats a total of 2465 worth of extras. I was hoping that at least 2 of those are thrown in for free!? What you thinking?

I probably will wait till August as there is a new dealer opening up the road from me.

I got my Type R GT for £18600 when it was £18627 at the time but for that I got Rage Alloys, iPod Connector, Mats & Diamondbright (I didn't ask for the Diamondbright and didn't notice till 2 days later) I actually didn't really ask for anything, I was offered that as a deal when I said, hmmm those alloys look good, that or the iPod connector.

I reckon you could push for Reverse Parking Sensors and Mats as these are dealer fitted options - unsure about the city pack, and ipod adapter but the paint is a HUK option.

Of course you'll be looking for full tank of fuel and 12 months road tax as part of the deal.

I found a nice low cut V neck top worked for me in sealing the deal but not sure if that would work for you

Your proabably right, but I will be taking my girlfriend along could make her do something similar? Although it will be a bit obvious if its raining outside...

It actually works though. My girlfriend just purchased a new fiat 500 and got pretty much everything she wanted.

I'm sure you have read about the Ipod adapter and it's limited functions, so I'd think very hard before you part with £225 for it. If you really want it then that is the sort of extra you should be pushing to get thrown in for free.

When you say limited functions, do you mean the fact that it doesn't work with certain models or that you can't see the track names etc?

Have a read of this in the wiki: Honda supplied iPod link - Civinfo Wiki

Also do a search for Honda Ipod there is plenty to read about it.

What I did is I took my ipod to my dealers, when I was thinking of getting it fitted, and tried the one in their demonstrator, but didn't think it was worth the price so didn't bother. See if your dealer would let you do the same.

IMHO, go for the money off...and only then ask for deals on the extras.

I would think that in the current climate, asking for money off and freebies is not totally out of the question, within reason.

Last May, I got £400 off without really trying, free mats, and a decent discount on some dealer fit extras. They weren't really handing out discounts as there was a 3 month waiting list at the time.

We all know no more than £180 can be had off a new type-r

Seriously though the 10% off can be achieved, it's about what I got over a year ago.

So basically, I am going to ask for discount on the actual car then some free extra's..... also there is a new dealer opening up near me.. brand new honda. Do you think they will be giving exclusive offers or will be more partial to discount as they would like to get there first sales in??

p.s. I won't be bothering with the iPod adapter if they CD changer that comes with plays mp3 format?? anyone know? can't see it in the Wiki?

edit: Scratch that found that it can! iPod is a no need
