Hello,
I just wanted to clarify as I seem to have read elsewhere that the panoramic glass roof is now an option that is available for EX specced Civics! When I ordered my Civic (EX CDTi) in February this year I was told by the dealer that I could not specify the glass roof as it was "not an option for the EX". If it is now an option when did this change? Cheers! Civic Centre |

I think it changed towards the end of March/early April. I ordered my EX i-Shift on 3rd Feb and wanted leather with glass roof but it wasn't available. Later (I think it was early April) I was messing around on the Honda Civic website and noticed in the 'Build Your Own' section that suddenly I could choose the leather/glass option.
I wanted to add it to my order but was told I couldn't, so I had to place a fresh order. Delivery went from June to July to August to September to early October then it may not be until after Christmas. Then told Cosmic Grey was being dropped after July production! In exasperation I asked what they had coming in during July and settled for the NHB (which was my very close second choice anyway) but with velour and no glass roof. They agreed to supply it without the colour charge. PS: I now have leather installed (see Bespoke Leather Club under Transform Leather) and, unlike the factory fitted leather, it is full leather. Thanks for the quick posts, looks like I missed out on the glass roof by about a month! Although the pain the Allan40alt has gone through I think my ignorance about the change in options was probably a good thing.
It did seem strange to me when I ordered the car that the top spec car (EX CDTi) could not have certain options (i.e. glass roof), other manufacturers dont impose these restraints. I'm glad the problems did not put you off getting a Civic in long run Allan40alt Cheers! Civic Centre |

I got the ES because it had the glass roof, have only ever closed the blind once, felt claustrophobic. Now open all the time, nice and airy. How many owners with glass roof keep the blind open all the time?

Mine is actually closed most of the time! I open it on special occasions to make it feel more 'special'!
Seriously, it is closed more often than open. I don't like the grey sky making the cabin look dingy in 1/2 light, I prefer a much darker cabin in that situation. In strong summer sun, I often close it to keep the sun off me and the dash instruments. I feel it is nicest on a clear evening, with deep blue skies above. When I first got it, I used to like watching rain on the roof when stuck at lights or in traffic, but that novelty wore off quite quickly. I always open it when I have rear passengers, though. I know it is a lot airier back there with it open, and I like the look on people's faces when the blind sweeps open above them! |

Yes the EX glass roof option became available around the 31st March 2006, I was lucky to order mine a few days later.
My roof has only ever been close when showing someone how cool it opens/closes, stays open all the time, way too dark in there with it closed, love the light airyness (is that a word?) it gives the cabin. |

Does the blind improve insulation? How well does the glass roof itself insulate heat? Just wondering if cold weather would be a reason to close the roof, to retain heat inside the car better. But with all the heating going on, I suppose that won't really become a problem.
The only other reasons I can think of for closing the roof would be if sun was glaring you or the passengers, or if there's a paparazzi helicopter above you and you want some privacy. Oh, and maybe at night, to keep the streetlights above and behind you from reflecting off the shiny dash (yes, I noticed it happen occasionally when driving at night, though the concave shape reduces the effect greatly). |
