drivethedeal.com type s price
Well its looking almost certain that I will be going through them for my Type S.
Honda Dealers are wanting around £19325 for the Type S with Sat Nav and HFT. Drivethedeal are wanting £17981. So quite a bit to be saved there. Obviously Id prefer to use my local dealer but if another honda dealer from somewhere in the uk can offer me that kind of saving then i have no choice. Also that includes delivery to my door |

Driving a few miles to collect the car surely would be acceptable if you can get a local(ish) dealer to match the price?
Best of luck getting the car, that's a great price and will be a lovely car! |

yes but i cant seem to find a dealer that will get anywhere near that price. Especially not when the Type S first comes out as I dont think they will have a prob in selling them. The prob will be supplying them. lol
If my local dealer would get to within £200 i would consider it. The most annoying thing is I will be getting it from a Honda Dealer anyway. But will just be down to drivethedeal for which dealer it will be. Id also be happier buying it from my local dealer as they would probably be more obliged to fix any faults as such should things go wrong if i had originally bought it from them. |

Makes no difference at all, I pushed my local dealer to fix my HFT and had bought from another, it made no difference as I called 3 dealers to find if anyone knew the fix and to see who had the earliest slot to fit me in.

No the car is registered to you as first owner and you get the documents straights away. All drivethedeal do is put you onto a honda dealer.

There is dealer margin, and there is broker margin. The broker margin is going to be VERY slim. The dealer margin depends on how desperate they are to sell stock. The broker just finds a dealer with the right spec in stock, or cancelled order etc, and gets the best price.
Main problem is them getting the car to you -- and having a lesser relationship with your local dealer for servicing etc. |

Interesting??? The broker margin can only come from the dealer margin and if the dealer margin is not as big as £1344 (as quoted) how can they do a better deal than a Honda dealer, unless Drive the deal is registered as a fleet company and get a fleet bonus

fleet bonuses do come into play a little bit here, yes... but at the dealer lever.
So imagine I work for Basegreen Honda, and the cost price of a new Civic is £12,500 to the dealer. They may sell the car at list price for £14,000. Within the contraints of their franchise with Honda UK, they have some room to manouever on the price. They might say they can sell the car for £13,000 with fleet discount and margin drop to the end user (via the Broker, with a £100 bonus to broker as a thankyou for the sale). The £100 comes from the dealer margin ultimately. The customer cannot easily get this level of margin from the dealer, because the margin is being helped by fleet discount etc. It will vary where the car comes from depending on which dealer is going to give the best discount to the broker. There are many reasons why a dealer will do a deal at any given time. HTH |

Sounds like you work for a Honda dealer
1) The dealers apparently do not have that margin in a new civic. 2) To get the fleet discount,I'm assuming it would have to be registered to a lease company.( and i'm sure thats more than £100 fleet discount). |

I don't work for a dealer, far from it.
I made the margin figures up. There is a margin, so if drivethedeal are offering say, £600 discount off list, you can assume there's at least £700 or so margin at the dealer side. Fleet discount is 5%, so 700-800 quid or so on a Civic. |

So the dealer margin is higher for the Type-S. It's a premium car.
If we are taking that specific example, some of that cost is in add-ons, which are *crazily* marked up. Sat Nav/HFT etc is a very profitable area for car manufacturers. Look at the baby seats which are way more expensive because someone pulled off the original OEM sticker and popped a Honda one on. So - on that example, we're talking about a 7% drop from RRP. 5% fleet discount = £966, and theres a lot more margin on the accessories (John Pease are offering 10 and even 15% off stuff on here to individuals). There's also slack for the dealer even after fleet discount. So it's not that surprising really. |

The dealers margin may be the same - but the way it is sold seems a little different with the way the spec is done. Either way, a 7% discount off list isn't that difficult with 5% of it from fleet.
