£115 is probably someone trying to work out what £132 minus VAT is....

Duncan,
Please ask them, I'm interested to know since typically I only do 7000 miles per year. Maybe they will change half the oil.

Looking at those prices makes Honda happiness well worth the money.

Yes. Basically if you can afford it, it's a no-brainer

I doubt you'd find a garage that would only change half the oil This would no doubt mean a full service wasn't carried out and would invalidate the warranty... Irrespective of mileage ALL the oil will have contaminants due to it being a new engine. your trying to save £20 worth of oil but rising the longevity of the engine and warrantly (the labour will still cost the same!)

I think what they mean is that the first service is a mini-service, and a full service after two years?

Well, I'd say that on all 'odd' services (12,500, 37,500, etc..) they change oil in engine, filters, etc.. while on others they probably change also brake fluid and some other stuff aswell - so that's why those are more expensive.
Also I think that at those services they might adjust valves, etc...

I have just got mine done in Holden Honda Norwich as I was down there visiting, and it cost me £132.00 but that was with the fuel additive they recommended and they washed it and hovered it free of charge. I was very impressed with them and would go there again.

What fuel additive did they recomend and what was there reasoning behind adding this?, bearing in mind that manuals usualy stated additives are not neccessary.

If they put the "additives" in without asking you, don't pay. . Its an easy £15 for them .

Wanna buy 'Honda Recommended air freshener' for just £15.00?

New cars shouldn't need any aditives, especially if there are no issues.

£15.00? Maybe not much, but for something that is most likely completely useless, way too much (IMO).

Was it a fuel or oil additive (as page 369 of the Civic manual says "Your engine does not require any oil additives. Additives may adversely affect your engine's or transmission's performance or durability)?

More to the point, I can see a situation where unscrupulous garages don't actually put anything into the car at all. For example, £10-£20 is a figure at which, if you're paying £130 plus for a service anyway, most customers probably won't query (especially for a product supposedly recommended by the manufacturer). Moreover, if it's a sundry that's pretty well impossible to know if you've received or not, it's quite a nice earner for the garage concerned.

At least query it a bit more I think, asking for the name and quantity of the product used. However, I'd be more inclined to pursue BG's approach. You didn't request it, it's not one of the normal materials used during the service, so why pay?

Thats a bit harsh.....you're not an Ipswich supporter are you?

Holden Honda ask ( first ) if this additive is required as an extra to the service they don't just put it in, and if its agreed we do put it in.

I do happen to see the rep every now and again so I can ask and hopefully answer any questions.
