Should you get a Civic? Well I have a diesel, considered several other vehicles BMW VW Ford and Citroen to name a few that were in the mix at the start.
Was it a good decision, well its done 15000 miles had the 2 problems I had sorted on service one. Other than that nothing to report it just does the job for me. The ride is firm but unless the road is very poor its not really a problem. Should you get one that depends on you and what you want out of the car. Happy hunting. |

Yes, go ahead and get one..
Last night I spent some considerable time in a Ford Focus forum and they have their own liiiiiiist of problems too.. If I remember right, for their "next car" poll, about 5-6% had marked 2006 Civic... It was just one forum I visited. You find lots in Google... As abovesaid, don't be put off by the problems you read over here. Car buying is really like a lottery. As a result of current mass-production, it may end up with a perfectly harmonized car or a piece from hell.. You never know until you get it. And test drives are just indicators, not definers. The Civic is a very good car, ahead of its rivals both in design and engine performance (except for the rear wiper IMO..) and well worth the money. I hope you get one and enjoy without problems... P.S. I got mine in June, now almost 10000km and without any problem.. Mine was from heaven! |

Definitely! No question about it! It's frugal (I get an average of 42mpg), it's small enough to park easy; but big enough to be very comfortable and smooth. The carrying capacity is amazing with the fold-up 'magic' rear seats (I got a 42" plasma TV behind the front seats and the stand for it in the boot with acres of space left).
Despite the few teething problems it is one of the most reliable cars on the road. My 1.8EX i-Shift has been brilliant. |

Glad for you, czechplastic. I've had four, near-faultless new Hondas in a row. I wouldn't buy anything else. That's why the Civic is so desperately disappointing. I've no intention of lowering the standard, so it won't be number five till it's properly put together.

Great car in many ways, but talk to Honda/Dealer carefuly about quality of paintwork and read the warranty terms first and don't be disappointed if after having done this there is a problem.
It happens according to Honda ! You might be the lucky one ! Good luck! |

Some coincidence here I've currently got an early 1.8ex with 18" wheels 25000 miles.
Good points, dash looks fantastic at night, loads of space in boot, turn in and grip great as is handling on smooth roads. Bad points, dash is a mess when you come to use it. see bugs faults and irritations, mine has had all of these inc a new gearbox and the new one feels fragile as well. Once roads get rough rebound damping feels too hard and car gets skittish, this affects brakes as well and ABS gets over sensitive and overall feels unstable under hard braking. 33mpg. Overall its an OK family car especially if newer ones are better built but its not much fun, I'm actually on the verge of getting rid of mine and having driven one I'm looking at a .................. Fiesta ST.http://www.civinfo.com/forum/images/...icon_smile.gif How have you found yours, is it just the ride or have there been other problems? |

I've had an 1.8 EX for 9 months now and have not had any of the problems others report, so it is not everycar that suffers. I still get a buzz everyday when I get in the car which, as has been said earlier, isn't true of most cars out there. I'd say get one, but then again I am biased!!!
In regards to finance, speak to the people who financed your last car. I got a great deal on my previous car, a megane, through renault finance, only 2% APR!! When we called them to get a settlement figure they where keen to keep our business and offered us the same 2% APR to finance the Civic. Guess they would rather keep you and make a little money than lose you altogether. Good luck, hope you make the right choice for you and remember you always get more negatives than posotives on a forum, people aare less likely to post that they have no problems. |

It's still just a cooking family hatchback, but compared to other similar cars I have owned it is really very good. The engine in particular is one of the best I've driven. Each of us seems to have a niggle (for me, it's the door that's on a bit wonky - but it will be fixed), but other similar cars I've had have had not one niggle but a list of serious faults. Niggle aside, I much prefer the drive of the Civ compared to my Audi A4 Quattro V6. And that makes me happy! |

You are so right only the person who is buying and driving the car can make the decision. Mines 4 months old today and turned 16500 miles. Overall its pretty good but has nothing to follow. My last car was VW and the dealers are poor the build quality is poor and it spent more time in the dealers than was sensible. Having had Honda vehicles before I got a Civic. I am sure it prove to be a normal Honda and just attend the garage for servicing. So it will be boring from a posting point of view but the forum is great fun for just chatting about cars and seeing all the different views on display and other peoples experience of the car. So should you buy one make your own mind up and have fun. |

Posts like "My car has been fine all week, uneventful and pleasing motoring this week" just don't happen. "I think my dash is rattling/buzzing" posts are more common because that's what people want to share.
Just so you know, my car has been fine all week, my motoring has been uneventful, and pleasing. |

I agree with all of the above comments. Ride is harsh on poor road surfaces but good on m'ways. Performance of 1.8 is teriffic when pushed hard, as designed. Yes, I'm disappointed with quality but without doubt it is the most interesting model available in this price range. Might want to look at a Seat Leon, this is the only other car I considered.

I wouldn't mind too much if I thought that some of the main issues would get fixed. It's rarely perfect first time. But so far, I've little confidence that my problems will be sorted. However, the car is going in for its first service in a couple of weeks, so just possibly I'll be proved wrong. If so, I'll say so and eat most of my whinging words of recent months - I'd very much like to be able to. If I have to grovel, it'll be worth it to get all the problems sorted. However, I'm not holding my breath. The car is due for its first |
