Maybe it's because they *previously* had the "reliable" reputation so you wouldn't need one very often

as previously stated it seems it is a new policy to charge for a courtesy car.

So it's a loan-car/hire-car now, not a courtesy, let's at least be politically correct

Trying to decide where I can fit "rip-off" into those words!

Looking at the thread, we must be lucky then. When we bought the jazz ( 2 years ago ) there was a delay and we had a courtesy jazz for about a week.

No questions asked, no charges and enough fuel to drive home. So can't really fault 'em.

Out of the two dealers near me, one does not charge for courtesy cars (as far as I'm aware), but would not loan the car out overnight.

The other charges you £1 if you didn't buy your Honda from them.

I've got a loan car from the dealer for 4 weeks as I've traded in my car early to avoid further depreciation. No charge for the car itself (2006 Honda Jazz 1.2), but I've had to organise my own insurance which cost a whopping £53 extra on my insurance.

Thats crazy!! So if they have your car for a few days you would have to go back and forth each day for the courtesy car

Still better than what Devries Honda try to do buy charging the gullible people £10 + vat PER DAYS so £53 for 4 weeks is damn cheap if you look at it that way

As I was given the keys for the courtesy car this morning (took out my own covernote, not paying Honda costs), I was informed of the mileage on it and told that I would be charged so many "pence per mile", I asked why I can't just fill it back up myself and they said the policy has now changed and that they charge everyone for each mile they do...

...not a lot to say when I asked if I could charge them for the mileage last week to get my fuel cap opened by them!

Anyone think I should pay for the few miles I'll put on it in the next 2 days??? Bearing in mind how many visits I've had over there with warranty issues still ongoing...

I would certainly ask them exactly what you are supposed to do if you end up with 5 miles of petrol left and a 30 mile journey to get the car back to them...

perhaps they would want it back on a low loader?

sounds like a pile of festerring BS to me!

how much per mile are they looking at charging?

No way, considering the cars only with them because of Honda's shoddy workmanship. If they push it, then send a stern letter to the MD of the dealers stating you want reimbursing for your wasted time and unnecessary mileage.

Andy G, Car was in last week for the garage to, unsuccessfully, fix the window creaking. Had to shell out a tenner for the experience, plus had to put fuel in the car £10, and then fill my own up when I got it back as they returned it with 0 miles on the trip.
What they used up your fuel, I hardly think fixing a window warrents a test drive!! I'd be horrified if I found more that 2-3 miles on the clock and demand a explaination as to why someone was driving my car without my permission!

I just kick off if they think of asking me. I do replace fuel though, if I borrow a staff car for the day.

replacing fuel is fair enough - I'm always more than happy to do that (unless total round trip is under 10 miles - feel a bit stupid putting £1 of fuel in!)

I guess possibly they were finding a lot of people didn't

you should of left it on their courtyard locked (so they can't move it or use it) take the keys with you and get someone to give you a lift to work or where ever, and when you go back when they see the mileage hadn’t changed how baffled would they be

In my local dealer there's a £10 charge, apparently it's just a usage charge and not related to excess and I mentioned that for warranty work I don't think I should be charged it, but apparently there was "nothing they could do"
Not too happy and I won't be using their services again.

in my book... (LOL for what that's worth!)

Warrenty work - dealer should claim any and all costs back from Honda - this should include whatever the 'cost' to them is of supplying you with a replacement car while yours is being fixed.

service work - this is where you seperate the great dealers from the also-rans.
A dealer who wants your business, and you as a customer, should (again, in my book), make the experience as painless as possible.
This could be by:
picking your car up from your place of work (or wherever) and dropping it back when done. (if just in for the day, obviously!), or
giving you a car for the day, or
letting you drop the car off, then giving you a lift back to your place of work (and picking you up again in the evening)

in both cases, I don't think it's unreasonable for you to give it back with at least roughly the same amount of fuel as it had when you were given it.
