Sport or EX (2.2)??
In about 5 months time I am hoping to order either a 2.2 Sport or a 2.2 EX and can't decide
The differences between the 2 I can see are Ex has these extras.... Dual zone climate (as apposed to just climate) Eletric folding mirrors dvd sat nav bluetooth phone link aluminium foot rest auto wipers auto headlights (both HID) interior alarm in addition to perimiter cruise control slightly different 17" wheels is there anything else I've missed? whats the best price people have paid (with metallic/pearl paint) for the 2.2 sport or 2.2 ex? Broadspeed seem the best bargaining tool to take to the dealers, whats a realistic discount that is achieveable (other than the what car price!) with paint broadspeed prices are sport £16,145 EX £17,555 so about £1,400 difference. Should I fork out the extra for all the toys on the EX or not? I've been reading for about 2 months and have set my heart on the 2.2 civic, just can't decide on trim...! Cheers Chris |

The other benefit (rather than extra) is the large display screen which can also be used to list CD tracks, show climate status, and used for the optional reverse camera. I also personally like the voice activation for some of the other controls (climate, audio etc) that is standard on the EX, although others class it as a gimmick. According to research carried out by America’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), driver distraction is the cause behind a massive 30% of road traffic accidents, and we will see a significant increase in the use of voice activation. |

I, on the other hand, thought the extras were not worth it for me. I use Tomtom on my PDA, I don't use my phone in the car, and the wider 17" wheels made the ride a tad too jittery for me.
Of all the "toys" the folding door mirrors was a must have, so chosing the ES was easy. Now colour....that makes it much harder! |

The glass roof on the ES is superb, and you get most of the extra kit, except HID (they are still auto, though) lights, HFT and sat nav. You do get the roof, electric folding mirrors, auto wipers and dual zone climate control and front fogs.

I def don't want the ES as the glass roof may be very nice but I'm sure that it brings the internal headroom down and being a lanky person (6'2") I don't want my head brushing against the roof, hence the decision for sport or EX.
Any word on what is a realistic price for the Sport or EX other than trying to get close to the broadspeed price? Cheers Chris |

For the money, the EX represents pretty good value for money, especially if you compare it with similarly specced golfs and A3's (You could end up payed over £20k for the same kit). I have the EX and love it, everything you could possibly need and more, as dawson says though, it all depends on your needs and cost.
Just think it through, you don't want to go for the sport only to regret it and wish you'd bought the EX. And great choice with the engine! |

Hi Chris,
I bought the 2.2 Sport just before Xmas after spending weeks reading through all the forums here, some great advice around and a very useful forum My budget was a max of £16,000 and I printed a couple of quotes from Broadspeed and Drive the Deal for both the SE and the Sport to cover all the options. After a good long long test drive confirmed that I really did want the car I basically gave the dealer the quotes and asked him for his best price - needless to say he wasn't exactly pleased, but was very professional. He would go as high as £600 to £800 discount on a factory order depending on model, however, we were looking at March 07 deliveries. He offered to sell me the one remaining Civic he had in stock, the 2.2 Sport with Metallic paint for £16,375. I declined and thanked him for his time, adding that my limit was £16,000. He phoned back the next day to agree to the sale at £16,000 and so I happily collected the car the following week for a very good xmas present to myself. I have to say I was surprised that he even beat the best internet price, although it was a car he had in stock and it was also mid Dec - always in the buyers favour. Jan I believe is also quite slow so good luck if you are buying. The dealer was Chatham Honda at Abbeyhill, Edinburgh. best wishes, Will |

I had this decision to make, and as others have said, it's a question of what is of value to you.
To me I would pay the following for each item: Dual zone climate (as opposed to just climate) £150 Electric folding mirrors £0 dvd sat nav £800 at least for a big screen Alpine system with TMC bluetooth phone link £120 aluminium foot rest £0 auto wipers £40 auto headlights (both HID) £0 interior alarm in addition to perimiter £50 cruise control £120 slightly different 17" wheels £0 Plus the "cool" factor value of the integration of all the kit, possibly £200. So that's £1480 - so it was worth it for me. And 14,000 miles later, I still reckon I made the correct choice! |

can you add your view a 3d view whilst driving (like tomtom) on sat nav as I have version 5 of it at the mo on ipaq which is great, but like idea of built in. Cheers for all help C |

i ordered a 2.2 sport last week came home thought about it all night and changed to the ex the next day.
for me i have cruise control on my clio 182 and i would miss it, the sat nav is somthing i like because my tomtom is good but it is a pain in the a$$ to keep taking in and out also you have to keep wiping the screen to get rid of the sucker mark to stop oportunist thieves, i think the electric mirrors will be useful when putting the car in the garage, and all the other stuff is just a bonus. if you buy the sport you may regret it later on when you are driving and think to yourself i wish i had my satnav now or cruise control would be nice. so if you can afford it get the ex |

I had the same Sport vs EX internal debate in my head, but in the end just couldn't afford the extra 1400 quid.
It depends on what you want (and I suppose what you're used to and couldn't now live without) but I guess most importantly what you can realistically afford All the extras would have been nice, but coming from an old banger I have never been used to any gadgets (except for an electric sunroof and windows) so they were things that I wouldn't miss. The only thing I would have really liked would have been the folding mirrors. Shame it was not an option because that's probably the only extra I would have wanted (on top of the parking sensors) There are loads and loads of exciting new things I have to look forward too on my Sport model which I've ordered: HID lights (<-- used to normal lights) Climate control (<-- used to wind down the window!) Electric mirrors (<-- fiddle with a manual control) Alloy wheels (<-- steel+trims) The list is just endless! In fact the only toy I will probably miss is having a rear windscreen wiper! Even without the extra kit when my new car comes I'm gonna be discovering new gadgets for months to come I reckon and I can't wait!!! Good luck and enjoy your purchase - whatever you decide! Luckily the best bit (the diesel engine!) you get anyway so it's bound to put a massive grin on your face - it certainly did when I test drove it and wondered to myself "Hmm what happens if I squeeze my right foot a bit harddderrrrrrr wooooooosh!) I thought I could only afford the sport at the time, but when it came to speccing it out I realised that the Sport didn't come with Cruise Control even as an option. For a trip to the Alps, Cruise is essential so I bit the bullet and went for the EX.
I find I use all the toys a lot, the Dual Zone Climate is useful as my girlfriend permanently whines about the heater setting so she can choose her own. The SatNav is great as it's built in but the functionality isnt as good as the high end TomTom's. Personally go for the EX it's worth the extra. |

For the money and compared to rivals you do get a lot of kit in the EX. Good value if you can stretch to it methinks. Although i agree with andrewuk, some people just don't need certain features and there's a model for everyone!
