Honda deals
Hi,
I am buying a Civic 1.8 EX in March, and i am interested in anyone elses experiences in obtaining discounts from Honda dealers. Is there a good time to buy such as at the end of a certain month when sales targets have to be met? I have lookeed at the Broadspeed website, and they are around £1000 cheaper than a Honda dealer, but i think the advertised prices are for pre registered cars. |

All depends on how well the dealers been doing and how good you haggling is. It also depends on what spec you want, cheapest EX price is around the 16K mark but higher spec cars cost more. Most dealers will haggle to get the sale, you can only gain so give it a go.

Traditionally the start of the year is quite slow for business, post christmas etc so you may be able to get more discount that usual. But it really depends on several variables, i would try muliple dealers and see how you get on.

I saved about £1K
My opinion is that Jan can be a mediocre month because some go for the year rather than the plate. Feb commands a good discount because most will now wait till March. Ditto August, good deals to be had, and also December, who would buy in December when within a month your car is effectively one year old ? |

It's not always the discounts on the new vehicle to look out for.
If you are part exchanging, that can be a very viable part of the deal. No point in knocking off 1k on the new car and get a lowered px by more than 1k! I paid list price for my EX but got a very good deal in the px. The list price was what I was expecting, but the more than decent px price made it much sweeter. Your better off getting a discount on the Civic and allowing them to drop the p/x as a result.
You save on VAT that way and it works out cheaper. |

I bought mine via Broadspeed and was pleased with the price. It was for a new car and not a pre-registered one as well. Just be calm and polite when dealing with the salesman, eventually get to the figure you want and let him push you up a tiny bit and you should both be happy.

I visited three different dealers and managed to get a 2.2 SE for £16,0000 which is the standard OTR price.
However I also managed to get £1000 more for my trade in car than the other dealers offered plus a free space saver wheel. |

Wow, you got a 2.2 SE for £160,000 - did you have to use any specific negotiation technique? hahahahaha. Only kiding, I get what you meant.
The important thing in all this is that you happy with the price you pay. I got £1000 of the list price of a 2.2 EX and a good px deal but I can guarantee the salesman didn't go home crying that night but I'm happy! |

from my past experiences with new cars, buy from a dealer who is local to you, not off the net. that 1k saving can soon be wasted trying to sort out a problem that the local dealer did not have a cut from and now you want there help to fix your car.
get to know the sales guy and if you have a problem then you just go back to him and get him to sort it. its alot harder to do that if the car came from the internet and the company is 100s of miles away, ive learnt my lesson wont be doing that again. |

I got £702 quid off the list price (2.2 ctdi Sport) using some print-outs from Internet dealers as a bargaining tool ("I'll just and speak to my manager, sir"
I was also amazed that I was offered almost double the amount I was expecting for my P/X (Rover 200) so I was really pleased!! |

I thought about approaching internet sites etc to see what deals were around and I also played one Honda dealer off against another. However on speaking to several Honda reps I was told that if you get deals from the internet etc the cars sold to you will not actually be made for this country and therefor the guarantees etc do not exist.
Now if these are just scare tactics they worked with me, as I can not afford to mess around with such a large outlay of money. |

I'm sorry, but this sort of thing really gets my goat. (Not aimed at you Kerry, aimed at the reps Whilst it may be true of some, less scrupulous traders, one of the divisions in the company where I work sells car over the 'net. Unfortunately (before anyone asks!), even at staff discounts, I would only get under £400 off list price for Civics And £0 off a Type R What I can confirm though, is that 'we' source all 'our' cars direct from the manufacturers, and to UK spec. |
