Difficulties when importing Civic from Denmark to Belgium?

Hi guys

due to VAT reasons, I am getting deal on new 1.8 Sport in Denmark and want to get it to Belgium where I live.

Does anyone have any experience of doing such a deal? What about warranty, car inspection? If the company ships civic from denmark to brussels and it will be faulty (fuel cap, rear shocks etc) what to do? Does anyone have experience with honda service in belgium, particularly in brussels?

And finally, anyone experienced diplomatic discounts from Honda in Europe?

Cheers!

cheapest car

Well, if you can buy VAT free car, the cheapest options are in scandinavia. recently, finland and denmark have good offers but considering the distance (delivery costs), denmark is the favourite one. FYI, 1.8 Sport blackpearl costs in belgium around 16.500 Eur exc VAT and in denmark you have it for 13.100 Eur exc VAT. There is good study done by European commission on car prices differences in whole Europe.

Sounds right. But after tax it's around 36000 Eur here in Denmark.

Thats why the base price is so low. Every euro saved on the base price is 3 euros saved on the final price for the customer.

Not sure but I thought you had to pay the tax in the country it was purchased (unless exporting outside of the EU?). As for warranty it should all be ok as it's an EU car (just as geoff stated).

I don't know if you can buy the car free from the 25% sales tax, but fortunately for Boban the most of the tax on cars here in Denmark is on the actual registration.
If you don't need danish numberplates on the car, then you don't pay the 180% tax.

Sounds like an idea place to shop then!
I take it the registration in Belgium is cheaper, and the difference more than covers the shipping.

That's true. For having just transfer plates (48 hrs inc insurance) you pay around 200 Eur (according to the law). Anw, my situation is, that I do not even pay the sales tax, as the car will be purchased on my wife's name who is European Commission servant.

What do you think (concerning possible technical issues like fuel cap, rear shocks etc) - is it better to check the vehicle personally in Denmark and then drive to Belgium, or just ship it there?

I would let the local dealer sort out eventual problems. Are you willing to wait for the danish dealer to fix things. Not that our dealers are slower than others but things take time

Personally I would enjoy the drive to Belgium and let your local dealer fix eventual problems.

I looked up the prices for temporary number plates because I didn't think they were that expensive.
It looks like they cost 100dkk per day. That equals 27 Euros for 2 days.

Prøveskilte = temporary number plates
100 kr. pr. døgn = 100 dkk per day

I have only been to a few dealers here on the Seeland part of Denmark so I don't have that much experience with them. After the purchase I have been to the dealer once go get the foam fitted on the fuel filler lid.

Are the 200Eur just for the plates?
Here in Denmark the adds delivery charges to the price of the car.
It's specified at the bottom of the danish pricelist http://honda.dk/sw7920.asp:

"leveringsomkostninger kr. 3480" = 464 Euros
That price includes the number plates and registration of the car.
The numbler plates alone is only 1100 dkk.
