I have just bought a Civic!!

Hi all

I'm a new member here - have been lurking for a while and finally decided to register and post

I've had my current car for over 6 years now (Rover 216si) and it has done me proud really. Despite the jokes about Rover I found it completely reliable and it never ever let me down. But I've been looking to replace it for a couple of years now and finally decided to get off my lazy butt and test out the new Civic which has appealed to me from the day it first launched.

It's still sinking in - yesterday I went to test the 2.2 diesel and the dealer was really good. They let me take it out for nearly 2 hours on my own so I could take my time with the car and it didn't let me down! I was instantly impressed with the engine - soooo much power. The car handled nicely, love the dashboard. And it just looks stunning!

So anyway to cut a long story short I went back and placed my order for a Civic Sport 2.2 CTDi in Blueish Silver - saw the colour on another Civic they had in the showroom and thought it looked superb. Contrasts with the silver trim and alloys very nicely.

I do believe in "Buying British" so it's even better than the new Civic is "Made in Britain"

I got £702 quid off (5%) after some haggling plus I was surprised to get 600 quid P/X on my old 1997 Rover 216 aswell To top it off I got a good finance deal aswell so I'm a happy chappie!

March 1st is when I pick her up - can't wait. This will be my 1st new car ever and I generally keep my cars for 5+ years so it was a big decision for me! I hope my new rocketship gives me many years of trouble-free and enjoyable motoring - just as my old Rover has. I'll be sad to see it go really. I think you get used to a car and it's quirks over the years - afterall you spend so much time in it, it becomes part of your daily routine!

I think you have joined the club of 'waiting for March' like me.

I have opted to bypass the 1st of March as I would prefer the dealer to have more time to PDI it.

Also took into account the servicing which would also be due on the 1st March annually and would clash.

Congrats on your purchase Andrew
Another waiting for march member here

although we had to go with 1st march as the tax runs out on 28 feb 2007 and I wasn't going to service it and put it through an MOT

as far as the servicing of the new car we will just wait until the 1st march
next year - as long as the car has done less that 12500 a few extra days don't make a difference with our dealer

Call me over cautious but on the 1st March 2008 you will be booked in for service along with all the other 1st March buyers from previous years, plus the new 2008 PDI buyers = one busy time for the service dept and just maybe some are skimped or rushed ?

I'm aiming for about the 9th March and I will probably let it drift very slightly year on year as I only do about 11K per year.

I had a new car on 1st August once when that was the plate date, admittedly not a Honda, but never again.

Er yes I didn't put that very well did I
what I was trying to say was that we will wait until the 1st march 2008 rush is over before her service

Good choice of car Andew, however i can't believe you will get delivery for the 1st March. I ordered my car back in October 2006 and was told there was a 20 week waiting period. Still waiting for delivery 1st March 2007.
Did they say what year you could expect delivery?
Regards
Kerry

I'm actually (supposed) to be collecting it on the 3rd, which is the saturday. But I'm not in a desperate hurry to get it so if there is a delay then it's not the end of the world for me. It would be nice to have it by the end of March though because that's when the tax on my current car expires...

I know what you mean about feeling like an 18 year old though - I was like a kid in a candy shop after I finished the deal yesterday

Hope you enjoy your new car Andrew, my Civic is now 2 days old, picked the Civic 1.8 ES ishift up this Saturday 27/01/07, my words are taken away from me, its possibly the best choice of car I have ever made, yes I would have liked the 2.2 CTDi, but at present the ishift only comes on the petrol modle. I know now after only 2 days of ownership I will never go back to a conventional transmission car, there are only 386 miles on the clock but my average MPG is 44.3 and I have been playing around on different roads so I am pleased with that, the build quality of the car is first class with what i can see and know, yes I know its early days and things may well change but my message is an honest opinion now.
Just for the record 1.8 ES ishift, 17" Sedecci, Nighthawk black. Brilliant

One of the March 1st club here too. Ordered 2.2 EX on the 30th December after falling for all the toys and I can't wait - time goes by so slowly when......

Interesting point with the Dealers being swamped around that time, guess I'll just have to put up with driving around for a few more days

Glad I found this site, loads of good stuff and advice!

The dealer is hopefully gonna ring me in the next couple of weeks to offer me a choice of reg numbers. Hope I get a cool one

I think I might ask them to put some parking sensors on it too so that when I collect it on the Saturday it's all ready to go!

I can't believe how many people seem to be more keen on crashing into my car now that it's committed to a part exchange

Hmm, I ordered exactly the same car incl. colour two weeks ago and was given a end of March/Beginning of April delivery date.

I suppose financially I am better off putting more miles on the part-ex car though.

So either mine's gonna come late or yours will come early

I'm not going to be hugely bothered if it's not exactly on time though to be honest. Afterall, good things come to those who wait

Crikey that's ages! I had (as someone else mentioned) better check they did mean March 2007!

Also how can you tell if you have a 2007 model? I assume since I only ordered a few days ago that mine will be (and emphasied to the dealer I wanted a 2007 build)? Is it in the VIN number or some other ID thing like that?

Hi Andrewuk

Yes, the VIN number or something similar does identify the year of build. I have read somewhere in the past that the year of manufacture is added to the car and no doubt someone will add to this and confirm the situation. Regards

Thanks, Kerry

On the model I test drive (an EX) there was a rather nice metal footrest for the clutch foot which I don't believe you get with the sport model (Was just reading the brochure again - have to look at the pictures to taunt myself!!)

Does this mean it is just plastic or something else or that there is no foot rest at all!? Can any nice person with a Sport model let me know the deal with that?

Opps mental note to self: Use the search! Seems it is plastic but should be able to fit aluminium one there DIY if I want.

Last edited by andrewuk; 30th January 2007 at 18:41. Reason: should have used the search :)

sport foot rest

On the models I haveseeen and driven the Sport foot resti is black plastic, and the pedals are aluminium. its a real shame they didn't finish it off and put them all aluminium.

I was considering getting a sport, but now am hankering after an EX!
I asked the stealer if you could get the alu foot rest seperatly and he was pretty certain that parts would be able to get it.
I'm sure that on other areas of the forum, "look what I got for Christmas" is the title some one got a full set up Alu covers.
List price for the lot is about £120 so I would have thought that you should be able to just get the alu foot rest for about £35 ata gues..
