Which one do I buy
Hey gus,
Firstly may I say what a great forum, for a great car. Well, here is my problem. Ive already established that the Civic is truley a excellent car, so thats what im going for, but my problem lies which one? My first test drive was in the EX 2.2 Diesl, which I really loved the speed and the tork in. You hoof the gas, next you know your at the back of the car. Then I test drove the EX Ishift Petrol. Now as per the other comments this really needed some getting used to. The fact that you have to lift your foot off the gas to make the shift smoother I thought was just damn right annoying. I spent alot of time in the US and drove lots of automatics, all of them changed gears without any such issues. At one point I think I could even feel the little clunk of the **** underneath my but. I then moved on to using the paddles, it was ok, found I shifted up more than down since the car auto compensated for doing to job. About the only time I liked the Ishift was when I was acctually using it in shift mode using the stick. A click up and a click down. Now I dont know becase im use to having left arm intervention or what, but I just liked it that way. I also found the car being a 1.8 was a little under powered, dont know if it was because it was an Auto. But getting from about 40 -70 I really didnt feel I was moving esspecially because I was overtaking a lorry on the motorway. I dont think ill be going for the ishift. Dont get me wrong guys, its still a very good car but I would encourage anyone to try it first, and make sure you spend good time in it also. my real issue is do I got for Petrol or Diesil. My immediate thinking is your doing away with the great reputation of iVTEC, the fact not one engine has gone down is amazing. So do I go for the 2.2EX or the 1.8EX. One has to be trueful and say that the germans do lead on diesil technology, but I was wondering what is everyones experiance with the diesil? Any issues? warantee claims? Im going to test drive the 1.8 petrol without the ishift over the weekend just so I can see what the manual is like but right now im thinking the diesil because of its power. Let me know what you think guys my appreciated |

Welcome newbieraf, I did not have the choice of what fuel to go for as the company is subsidising the car, it had to be Diesel, however, I am very impressed with the performance, ecnomoy and refinedness (??) of the Diesel, I have had Renault, VW and Peugeot diesels before this and although its not as punchy as the Golf, the quietness and ecnomoy is one of the best I have driven, even being a 2.2 as opposed to the others being 2.0 or 1.9. I can return 53 mpg on a good motorway run and average 48 on most other journeys.
I am sure there will be someone here who has had the pleasure of both the petrol and the diesel, but I am more than happy with the diesel. |

Hi,
I am new to this site and have driven a friends 2.2 diesel a numberof times and very impressed with it and that is comparing itto my V/W Passat 1.9 TDi 130bhp and the Golf GT TDi 140 bhp. I think the Civic beats the Golf for just about everything including mid range power. My friend is very impressed he has done almost 18,000 miles in his Civic driving school car since April & averaged 54 mpg! We both test drove the i-shift last Sunday and although still a nice car, it is certainly no match for the 2.2 diesel and would agree with the comments already that it is better using stick for up/down shifts - gives a better fuel return this way too. Cheers Brian |

2.2 i-CDTI EX
I'm loving this forum - so many great hints and How To's... Well I test drove the New Civic last week; the Demo car I was given was the 2.2 i-CDTI Sport version. I thought the engine was brilliant and was very impressed with the unusual styling inside and out. I currently drive a MINI and enjoy the different 'look', this is probably why I'm so interested in the Civic. I've seen mixed reviews, but this has definitely not put me off, numerous posts here and in other forums has demonstrated 'real user' opinion more fully in my opinion. Therefore I'm planning to go and place my order on Monday and am opting for the EX model to give me all the gadgets.
When I spoke with the dealer last week, I mentioned including floor mats, rear parking sensors and supaguard within my cost to change price. Since then, I have been browsing through the brochure and have seen the City Pack. Not sure now whether I could negotiate for this to be included with supaguard. I would then have mats, sensors and also the bumper and door protection all around in case any careless (or perhaps jealous) person decides to slam their car door into mine! I'm going to go for Nighthawk Black; I know it's a pain to keep clean, but I think it really suits the car. Anyone got any pictures with the City Pack included? Cheers, Lee |

I have the City Pack, I posted a few pics in the gallery, see link:
http://www.civinfo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=153 Just ignore the first one, that shows one of the problems the dealer left me with. |
