Ok, here's some low quality piccies taken on its test fit yesterday....

I have rubbed down the top of the gear knob now to a satin finish not too far off the plastic colour that doesnt shine in the light as in that picture (As you can see it arrived in the standard mirror polished finish with a few scratches) .
Just have to rub the lower section to match the top and then make a nice matt black leather gater. Once down I will post some better pictures.

Just posted this in the classifieds section

Not as cheap as some of the finds on fleabay, but a tad more unique.

If anybody who has changed their gear knob would like to sell the now redundant original, could they please drop me a PM with the asking price?

Mine seems to have developed a nasty scratch!!

Gear Nob

Hey guys

i was wondering, after thinking carefully about the gearshift nob i was quite convinced the honda upgrade was the one for me, after all it is nice. However i was wondering if you guys prefered anything else, i personally was looking for something way smaller sleek and something that caught your eye, similar to the gear nob on the mazda rx8 but i can't find anything special. Before i buy the honda one i'd value your opinion on this.

I've got a really cool '8' ball from a pool table thats been drilled and threaded sitting in my garage, that I used to have in an old car. Very retro!

Might dig it out and see how it looks...

Heh, I never realised that the shiny round aluminium-looking brushed metal gear knob was the one from the Type-R. The 1.8 SE demo car I test drove at the dealer's a couple of weeks ago had it fitted, I thought it was standard

Maybe something like this ??

Tell me what you think ?
Now does the actual gear shaft seem shorter on this car? or does the nob cover most of the shaft?
This is a mazda RX8 by the way, quite a weird looking handbrake if you noticed

I too was considering the sports gear knob, but I'm def reconsidering now! Quite surprised actually that it doesn't sit as low down as the factory fit one. Mine doesnt arrive till September, so I have until then to find a different one.
I agree with RJA1980 - its the only thing that lets the interior down

Got the Honda one fitted recently. Its smaller than it looks in the photos. Felt strange at first but I don't find the throw that much longer than on the original one. Feels good to hold and it looks classy.

Did you have to do any drilling like Pottsy or did you fit it straight out of the box?

Am seriously thinking about getting one for mine, when it arrives that is! (hopefully only a couple of weeks now...!), I've been looking at other ones, but not seen any I like.
Also, did you get it from a dealer? May I as how much you got it for?

Cheers!

If anyone does ever over tighten and spoil the thread of the knob, --
Wrap a bit of PTFE plumbers tape round the stick thread and re fit . job done.

I didn't fit it, I had the studio pack fitted (camera, ambient lighting, door step garnishes + elegance carpets) I already had the carpets as they came with the car when I bought it so the dealer agreed to swap them for a gear knob even though it's more expensive.

The dealer fitted it but it's unlikely they would have done the job much better than Pottsy, it's on very securely and doesn't seem overly tall. It doesn't change the throw very much (if any in my opinion) and looks suitably classy. It's also great to hold, very nice

You just unscrew the old one and screw on the new one (by rotating the knob on the shaft - no grub screws or anything); have a look at the first few posts on this thread. Can't remember how much I paid for it, it was just an option on the list at the time.
