money... wait till you get her, then it becomes time! All those hours spent making her look amazing! And the girlfriend wonders why I am so busy on sundays. And that black interior doesn't help because all forms of dust shows up like lighthouse at night! Esp, people with dandruff! Grrr...

Yes, i must make sure the girlfriend doesn't read this either.

I´m looking at some options for a new gear knob.

a) How do you take the std one off? Do you pull away the plastic ring?

b) How do I know which ones fit?

As described very well by Pottsy (& others) earlier in this thread you just screw it off (anticlockwise). The whole gear knob is one unit.

Most aftermarket or ebay ones tend to come with adaptors that you can secure onto the gear knob. When buying make sure you check that it comes with these. As for the Honda ones, read through this thread, others have managed to put on other model gear knobs onto our civic. Would seem like most of them fit...

Only thing to be slightly careful for, if going for (say) a Type R knob is to make sure its from a 6 speed box - there are a lot of 5 speed ones on ebay at times

They'll propbably still fit, but...

Got my sports gear knob yesterday - really pleased with it, feels nice too. I would recommend it.

Hoping to fit some my new sidelights (Super bright 501 LEDS) at the weekend, arrived yesterday too!)

Do you have the same problem like the starter of this thread with your sports gear knob?

The gear knob is larger than the standard one, and it doesnt quite sit as low, but I haven't found this to be a problem for me. Its a really comfy gear knob to use and looks nice in the cabin too.

I never found it really made any difference, maybe mine was just fitted better.

The loan car I have has a sports gear knob and I hate it! It's awful, totally the wrong shape for my hand. Can't wait to get the original one back....

I find nothing wrong with the sports gear knob personally.
Some people i have discovered via the internet have the wrong shaped hands. A medical check up at your practitioner may show this to be the underlying cause.

Hi all,

Purchased and fitted the sport gear knob today. I like it. Yes it is slightly larger than the standard one but I think it is more pleasing to the eye it also is more weighty so assists slightly during gear changes.

Fitting not a problem, screwed for dear life, until was fitted well down onto gear selector shaft, bloomin tight but needs to be.......

Not bad, not bad, just front fogs and mudflaps to get now.....when i have the wonga!!

Regards Pumatron.

That's funny. I hate the original knob. When I took a Type S out for a test drive my first thought was: "That knob has to go". I've had it replaced with the Sports gearknob and it works perfectly for me.

I agree I hated the original gear knob and got the sports one as a freebie from the dealer - i think the sports gear knob looks a lot better than the standard one and fits in my hand better. But hey - each to their own
