Help please? 2.2CDTI ES
Hi folks, newbie member here after finding the link on Honest John.
I'm currently on the look out for a 2.2 CDTi ES after seeing one last week and I'm wondering if somebody can give me a bit of advice. A lad at work has the 2.2 CDti EX version and he loves it and he reccommended the ES version to me. I can't quite stretch to a new one so I'm looking for a one year old car. The prices quoted on many dealership website is £14999 (mileage ranging from 6k to 11k), Springfield Honda Tynemouth and Newcastle. Obviously there is the opportunity of bartering with them on the price when I go to the dealerships, but I would like to know if anyone else has bought a similar car and what sort of price they got. I've read a lot of articles about things that have gone wrong on Civics and would like to know what others think and what things to look out for? Thanks in advance for any help - it'll be hugely apreciated! |

Hi
Still quite hard to find ES models used as yet, there are quite a few SE models cropping up now, but not many ES or EX models. Also depends what colour you want, I saw an 06 2.2 CDTI ES which was being sold at a Mazda Garage, that was priced at £13995 with about 10k miles on and it was silver. As far as I know the most you'll get off a used Civic is probably £500, but it depends on the spec and how long it's been there. Arnold Clark also seem to have a few now, but I wouldn't recommend dealing with them. Good luck! Quote:

Got my ES (2.2 CDTI also) back in late sept. At the time it was 6 months old ( so getting to a year then)
At the time was £15000 with almost 12k and got rear parking sensors too. I think i could of got it slightly cheaper, but finding ES was hard, and at the time EX was to overpriced 2nd hand for 'just' the sat nav and HID lights. So i would guess a few months on you may be able to get a little cheaper, but the lack of 2nd hand ES spec won't mean you get to much change for £14k, if you get lucky in private ads maybe £13k. So far not much has gone wrong, Auto-windscreen wipers never worked and sun-blind on roof seem to cause me probs, both getting fixed when i get round to it, but they are only small probs, never had any of the other mentioned ones - guess coz it was 2nd hand and it all got sorted ** me (*Thanks to whoever owned it first!!*) Hope that little essay helps you! |

Thanks for all the help people, I was expecting to pay the £15k but sounds like there is plenty of scope to barter people down - also sounds like the rear parking sensors are a must!
I agree about the EX, the sat nav looks excellent and I've always wanted HID lights (dont ask me why!) but both are quite easy to live without so I'll be more than happy to live with the ES. I've had a look on Autrotrader and there seems to be a few ES models available within 100 miles of where I live so I guess the second hand market for these is starting to form. I've got 3000 miles to my big service on my current car (Megane) and I'm looking to get rid of it well before then (MOT also due in a couple of months) and with the new regs coming out - there may be a slim chance of me picking up a bargain on a 56 reg, although I'm not too hopeful of that happening given current demand! Once again though, thanks for the help so far, its given me plenty of food for thought. |

Had the test drive yesterday, but the dealer could only get a 2.2CDTi Types S. Not ideal as I wanted to try a 5 door.
Thought the car was powerful and spritely, the steering is very light compared to my Megane and the interior was as good as expected. The salesman told me I wouldn't get an ES 2.2CDTi, about 1 year old with under 10k miles on it for £15k as the sport versions were going for a bit more than that - he said I should be looking more at £16k. I nearly walked out the room laughing, thats nearly the list price of a new car - nowt like trying your luck. Obviously this is before battering, I'm just waiting to see what they offer for my car, and hes going to have to come down along way. What do people reckon I should be looking to pay - I'm expecting around the £14k mark??? |
