Should I Buy a New Civic 2.2 Sport?????
As previously stated, I have bought/ordered a New Civic 2.2 Sport from Hyndland Honda in Glasgow (really excellent Dealer), due to be delivered 20th March-07.
After reading about all the faults in this Forum I am now wondering if I have done the right thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a Ford Focus C-Max Zetec 2.0 TDci, had it from new with NO PROBLEMS (yes........NO PROBLEMS) goes like stink, excellent handling will really miss this car....50+ MPG. Got rid of a Jazz due to lack of sense from Honda customer service, vowed not to buy another Honda again (after last 5 Honda cars)...regarding A/C condenser problem but that's another story. Repeat am I wise buying this car????????? |

in terms of probability:
yes granted, there are 2 people in particular who seem have have been sold real problem Civics and several people with gripes (of varying degrees of severity) BUT - if you're asking for a personal point of view - if my Civic was stolen / totalled tomorrow (urk, that's tempting fate! |

First of all you need to remember that honda have sold over
105,000 civics in 2006 and this board had just over 2000 members most of whom are more than happy with their cars. A lot of the issues are with early 2006 cars - (All manufacturers (including Honda) a small proportion of problem cars ( at the moment ford have big problems with the S Max Renault have problems with the Clio) Most of the early issues seem to have been resolved in the main but you will find a few unlucky owners ( doesn't matter about the manufacturer) Look in the Buying section at MY 07 cars you will also find quite a few people on here awaiting their cars in March who are more than happy with their choice. |

If tomorrow my wife dents my car (hope she is OK), she better go to the dealer and demand exact same new one before I notice the problem!

1100 miles and all is fine with my 2.2 Type S GT apart from one minor irritation, window pillar trim distorted. Not exactly as show stopper!

Are you a lucky person ?
In my mind most of the Civic produced since September 06 are defect free, but because the QA System is working mainly on statistic (testing a component every x n° of it, testing a certain number of cars during manufacturing and before delivery, final check by dealer before giving the keys to the Buyer...) All troubles cannot be detected. So if you're unlucky you will purchase one of the few car wich are going through the system without being detected. It's what we call in France the "Gruyère cheese syndrome" ... Theres are always holes in the slices of this cheese. Usually from slices to slices the position are changing so you cannot go through it. But sometime all holes are in the same position and you have a tunnel ! |
