I've been asking this for 6 years (approximately) No-one has any idea, if the dealers don't know how will we ever know?!

Only 6 years CZ??
When did the car go on sale?

07' Civic Type-R @ 5000 rpm

For the Type R spoiler you'd need both rear windows some brackets to weld on (or a tailgate) and the spoiler of course!

I had a good poke round the back of an R today, and it was parked next to a 5 door Civ.

I couldn't see quite how the spoiler was attached, but it certainly looked like it would fit on any other of our Civics
(without the need for new glass or owt )

Thats what I think too TT, It looks like the clips on more or less the same way as the lip spoiler does at the minute. Just want this confirmed, I want one!

I had another good poke at it when I picked my Civ up - and stupidly didn't take any photos

I'm 99.9% sure its 'just' stuck on top of the normal lip on the rear window

The glass screen is slightly different so you can't see the spoiler in the mirror ( I suppose you could live with seeing it). The spoiler is bolted on through holes in the plastic window. The fixings are brackets welded to the tailgate frame. So some serious work to get one fitted.
Next time you're in a dealer ask to see the parts list picture which should show the different parts and prices.
Tailgate frame: £????
Plastic window: £???
Painted spoiler £???
Fitting cost and paint: £???

One happy dealer and a sporty looking car.

Where's the no nails?

Of course!
You won't see any difference on the inside as the brackets are hidden under the plastic window.
You could ask a dealer to removes one for your pictures.
