Buying a Type S GT 2.2 through DriveTheDeal
Hi there
Been registered here for 4 months or so and today took the plunge by ordering a Type S GT Diesel. To be honest, I was bored and I was thinking of just getting another Fabia vRS (they're really good cars, and dirt cheap) but thought, what the hell, the Civic looks v. cool. I never thought I'd buy a Honda because of my heart ruling my head! The spec I want is NHB with the DVD Navi, and both city pack and image pack too. Both broadspeed.com and drivethedeal.com only allowed me to specify the navi, 18" rims, and the pearlescent paint as options, and came through as follows: Broadspeed: £18764 Drivethedeal: £18613.87 So I have placed an order with drive the deal - and placed my deposit. They called me back 30 mins later to tell me they would now source a dealer who would get back in touch. I've told them to try and find one with city and image pack as I believe these are factory and not dealer fitted options? However on another thread I see people saying that NHB cars are 20 weeks waiting time so I might go for bronze instead. Those are my two favourite colours. I do like those 18" Anthracite wheels too, which is why I've ordered them. Glad to join the fold here - I'm a long term jap fan who's had a Gen 7 Celica and currently owns a Supercharged Nissan 350Z. I'll post pics if people like. Oh, and of course, I have a 14 month old Skoda Fabia vRS runaround for sale if anyone's interested! Finally - thanks to the forum and all the posters here, for helping me make my decision. The community of car ownership is very important to me, and there's no better, non cliquey, supportive environment than with Jap cars. Hope to join your fold soon enough Stephen. |

just to confirm, both city and image packs are dealer fit, not factory
which is why I couldn't spec either on mine (long story, and very boring, but that's how I know!) |

Ah right - brilliant; thanks for that. That helps actually. Though I thought it would be the kind of thing that was more likely to be factory? Especially as there's paint involved?

yep, I thought so too
ended up getting it confirmed direct from Honda UK long story very short: company car, on lease. lease co allows factory fit options, but doesn't allow dealer fit. except that it does allow dealer fit for all the other bits such as reverse camera etc just not skirts / spoilers - too 'boy racer' apparently (although the Scooby WRX STi super limited edition thingy is on the 'allowed' list) but they would have let me have them if they had been factory fit not that I'm at all bitter about it or anything! PS - parts come pre painted from the factory I think (different part codes for different colours) - dlrs 'just' fit them on when they turn up |

I went thru the whole 20 week thing back in September 2006. I was being told by my local dealer mid-November, then suddenly everything was pushed for NHB to end of January, a jump of 2 1/2 months overnight.
Hunting round I found some places talking early/mid December & actually committed via Autoebid to a dealer in Norwich who claimed mid December & gave me the best price. Although timings slid out to indeed be start of February (via end of March too!!), I can accept that this was the production line's fault & not the dealer's. All Honda Civics are going to come from the same factory so I can't really see, in hindsight, how any dealer can offer shorter lead times, UNLESS they already have your chosen spec on order. Ask at any dealer & they should be able to tell you if your chosen spec is in the pipeline for another dealer, either for their forecourt, specific customer or as a demo. You can then try to get them to do something to get that car for you. My chosen dealer made up for the mid-December to start of February delivery lag by sending me a Type S from mid December until delivery of my car, which I thought was a pretty fine thing to do & more than made up for the delay. It gave me a chance to get used to the basic gadgets before I got my satnav & HFT etc & meant the 1st 1500 miles didn't go on my car! I did find a Type S with most of my chosen extras 400 miles away whilst waiting for my EX, & was tempted to switch to that, but having got my EX I am so glad I didn't go that way. |

Ha - I'd love that type S you turned down!
It really does look like 20 weeks, in ALL colours, for the 3-door model. Crumbs! This is a factory delay so apparently it'll be the same anywhere. Time to start hunting for demonstrators... |

Well, I went for a drive in a Type S this weekend at my local dealer. It was the petrol and not the diesel engine, but it gave me a chance to see this difference suspension and handling setup, which I was expecting it to be subtly altered, but I find it's completely different. I'm wondering if those people on this forum who say there's no difference are towing a caravan at the time.
And the news from my dealership is that delivery of NHB will be in early May - not quite 20 weeks as I first heard. Hmmm. Back to drivethedeal for an update, methinks. |

Rizlam, I agree with you, Having tried a number of Standard and Type S civics before I made my choice, I found the Type S's handling much more sure footed and positive.
Also thought the astetics of the 3 door had the slight edge over the 5 door version, but thats just personal taste. |

Yep - it's has virtually no roll in moderate level cornering at high speeds (Motorway on-ramps, etc) and the spring dampening is such that there's a lot less weight transfer to the nose when braking hard.
It also 'feels' lower, but from visual inspection, that doesn't appear to be the case. |

OK - update - after numerous to and fro calls with DriveTheDeal, I have committed to the following:
Type S GT diesel, Nighthawk Black I decided to not get the navi & bht and the alloys after finding a nicer set of 18" rims elsewhere AND a replacement fascia (oh yes, it's been made) to allow me to use a top of the range double-din entertainment system instead of the Honda offering. More details on that soon. So, after processing the order, got the call from the dealership, who told me they have a CANCELLED NHB Type S GT Diesel ready to go in a week, the only difference being that it has been fitted with a handsfree kit and Supaguarded, for which they wanted another £650 on top. Now, the problem here is, knowing if the Honda handsfree Bluetooth unit can be attached to a third party head unit; because if not, it's no use to me. Also, I've never bothered with Supaguarding a car as I've always taken care of the paintwork myself and so I'm not overly fussed, so I'm really just paying £650 to get the car 6 weeks early. I told them I will make a decision by 2pm tomorrow so I'm currently thinking hard about it all! |

it basically doesnt do what it says it will do. The shine does not last lke they say it does.
Your far better off saving the money and buying some decent polish. Will look a lot nicer and shine alot more. trust me. |
