Warranty and investigation charge

Having bought my 06 1.8 EX from the Honda Dealer last week, it came with a year’s warranty. On a long drive last weekend I noticed a couple of small issues, i.e. woofer/speaker buzzing, car pulling to the left and the radio not tuning correctly.
Anyway thought I’d book it in to get them checked out… so on dropping the car to Honda Chiswick y’day evening, I was told that there would be an inspection/investigation charge of £54 in the event on them not finding a fault… I could not believe what I was hearing… never had this with the VAG warranty I had with the Golf, albeit that was a 6 years ago… I wasn’t going to accept it, but the guy on reception said that’s what it costs & it’s in the T&C’s, so went next door to the used sales dept. and mentioned it to the salesman I bought the car from, he didn’t expect it to be the case but on checking with his manager he said there was a ‘small’ charge but he would get it waved, since it’s not even been a week...

Anyway… does anyone know this to be the case or is this because this dealer was the biggest one in Europe so they are able to get away with it?
My point is how do you know a problem there till you get them to confirm it for you and if it turns out not to be there or intermittent and they don’t see it at the time you are charged?!?!

When i went to get some niggles checked, the dealer certainly did not charge me any kind of fee.

Does the manufacturer's warranty and this 'Honda happiness Guarantee (12 months)' cover the same things? have the same T's & C's?. Im not sure about that, maybe someone can clear that up for you.

that's how it works i'm afraid !! wait till they find the fault and still charge you as " wear & tear" that's the killer !!

If you have only had the car a week is it still in your T&C you can give it back? If so a mention of this will get the fee waived and the problems resolved instantly.

No charge for me and they had my car 2 days and found no faults. Quite sure there is something in the warranty document about costs etc etc. Have a read, not once have i ever handed money over to my dealer, even when they replaced the master cylinder which is not a warranty job they still covered it as i only had the car a week.

to be fair sam, i've never paid anything, the thing is, once the dealer sells the car, they pay honda to warranty it (about £500 apparently ) then take no blame for any issues that arise, that's why your liable if no fault is found, i've still not resolved my problem's with the gear change (see my thread "warranty issues" also wire_gal has posted about dealer trouble) and that's why i would not buy another "approved honda" the crux of my rant is, the car was not "sold as seen" and therefore your guarantee is with the seller, but a call to honda uk could help, or just kick off at the service desk, they hate that, which dealer network is it ??

Had a similar thing with a VW Bora, garage said if no parts need replacing there would be a charge even if they found a fault (that could be fix without a part being replaced).

It was Chiswick Honda, however I went over to used car sales and complained to the salesman I used and he discussed with his manager and they agreed they would pay any investigation fee. The guy on the service desk wasn't very professional, he was arguing the toss witht he sales man as to who should be paying for the investigation free them or sales, and basically kept pestering him to send an email to confirm... very unprofessional in front of a busy service desk. The dealer was Chiswick Honda... Biggest in Europe apparently!

Anyway so they found that the speaker was blown and will replace it under warranty, just waiting for it to come in.

Actually extended my warranty today for another year (to add onto the 1 year standard warranty I got when purchasing)... not sure if that was such a good idea or not... as I'm worried about the reliablity of the car after reading stuff on this forum, I know the forum attracts owners that discuss 'problems' with their cars, so maybe biased, but lets see... plan to keep it for 2 years anyway.

Nail on the head their. Im planning on using my approved used warranty as much as i possibly can though, why pay for something if you wont use it.
