EP3 Type R to 2.2 CDTi (My Story and Magazine feature question)

Hello

Picked up my new Civic CDTi on Friday, after a bit of delay courtesy of Honda UK, thanks lads.

Dealer was Grierson and Graham Honda, in Dumfries, who being honest, is a world apart from anyone ive ever experienced in retail, automotive and domestic.

Their service is second to none, and a brilliant deal too.

I am a freelance writer for a couple of mainstream car magazines and will be writing a feature shortly but thought id discuss a few bits with you guys.

I was very sad to say bye to my Type R which had done 46000 miles from new (54reg) and had been driven like it was supposed to, and never once gave me a single bit of bother.

Due to personal circumstances (fiancee moving in) we needed a car that we both could use, and wouldnt cost the earth to run in fuel, unlike the Type R

Well after a lengthy wait, (Dealer lent me a top spec Petrol car whenever i needed to go anywhere far) my new Civic arrived in Nighthawk black.

Done 402 miles this weekend going away biking, and despite my mountain bikes not fitting across the back of the front seats like in the brochure, we had a great time.

Averaging 43mpg driving it sensibly under 2500rpm up to 3000rpm when overtaking.

Very impressed with the torque, and 6th gear in gear acceleration is immense.

In the Type R you have to change from 6th to 4th to overtake swiftly, in the Diesel, its effortless in 6th.

For the magazine i write for i am soon to write a feature on ECU tuning and modifications, in particular in forced induction applications.

I have heard tales of ECU remaps for the Civic Diesel giving 182hp and 350ft lbs torque. Has anyone had this done?

I dont particularly want to do it to mine as i assume it invalidates the warranty, but the CDTi is everything i imagined it to be torque wise, and i can only imagine what the remapped model is like and plan on writing about the Civic in particular in my feature.

Does anyone have one in Scotland i can see and feature in the magazine article?

My mate has his PD150 Golf done and will keep with my EP3 mid gear even when im revving the nuts off the Type R.

Thanks for reading

Paul

hello and welcome to you.

It was a nice little R Type you had.

It's nice to have a scottish writer with us.

You can have a look here about remapping
Superchips at last!!!

or maybe here
Remap or Reflash for 1.8?? (merged)

or here : Group Buy Remap for 2.2i-ctdi 185bhp from £375

or : Diesel remap MOT emissions

there are lots of other threads about remapping, use the Search function or the wiki for more info

Superchips do maps covered by their own warranty. Basically any damage caused to the engine by using the map will be covered by them. They also boost power to 190hp although it costs a hefty £500.

£500 for a chip?
Might be worth investigating the Hondata K-Pro for similar money courtesy of Torque Developments. At least that unit will map your engine precisely rather than a generic mapping.
Just a thought if you plan on going down that path.

Not that I'm aware of - might be worth having a chat with TD and see if a) the K-Pro works with diesel plant, and b) if they have a local reseller over here.
Otherwise, if a is yes, then a wee trip over to the mainland would be the next step.

CZ- from memory McVicker Rally Services Ltd 54, Dows Road, Ballycarn Belfast BT8 8LB Tel : 02890 826343 are the NI Superchips dealer. He also has a rolling road, brings back memories of my MK2 Golf GTI 16v big bumber model. Yummy. Used to be a member of the GTI club, I had the only 16v model for a long time and we brought our cars to McVickers for a rolling road day. Everyone was very careful with their cars except me, I used it for work and unlike the rest hadn't done any mods. The 16v recorded 139bhp, standard with 85k on it, next nearest 8v was about 15bhp down. There were a lot of disappointed owners that day. except me! From memory that was 1995, scary, just like yesterday!
