It's official I own a civic
The wait is over Just collected it from the dealer, so now the pround owner of a 1.8EX i-shift in cosmic grey. Took the long way home, so far so good everything seems to be in working order. Just have to get use to the lack of rear visibility and the extra width of the civic over my old HRV. Probably take it out for a long run tomorrow once I had chance to go through the manual.

Nice one, Stretch
I've got to wait until Monday (fingers crossed) to pick mine up. Enjoy! How do you find the i-shift? Does it take a bit of getting used to? glh1508 |

Also a new owner!
We also picked our new Civic up today! Excellent car! On the first time round a local roundabout VSA appeared to come on the front right wheel...i've been going round corners slower ever since!
Can't fault the dealer or the car at the moment though! The tailgate appears a little unkeen to close without a bit of a push, but it'll loosen up in time! Great Satnav/audio! Just the manual to read now, but all relatives we've seen so far have been really impressed! Bit of a driving position change from a Jazz too! Cheers Dave |

Back from my spin, originally thought of going down the A41 to bicester to look for richierich's civic but it the end just took a spin in the hertfordshire country side before taking the missus to watford to shop.
So glh1508 asked how I got on with the I-Shift, well it was a game of 2 halves, when I took an I-Shift for a test drive prior to ordering I was trying to drive it like a full auto which was not a good move as its jerky and quite frankly scary. Having reset my brain to treat it like a clutchless manual we got on much better, in the 40 miles or so this afternoon it was pretty smooth, the only thing to really watch out for is when it goes from 1st to 2nd (definitely need to lift off the accelerator for a smooth change), kick down works great was taking it easy doing 55-60 on a stretch of open dual carriage way but was been buzzed by an annoying fiesta so decided to put a little distance between us pushed hard on the accelerator, it kicked down and felt the iVTEC system in its full glory it really goes above 3500 rpm!!! Having said that in normal driving the i-shift is obviously programmed for economy because most of the time it likes to sit at between 2000-2500 rpm and shifts up quite early. Now for the other half, I must remember to use the brake pedal before going from neutral to Auto on a hill, sat there hand brake on engaged auto took hand brake off revved engine started to inch backwards as it wasn't in gear, 2 out of the 3 hill starts at the lights must have given the guy behind me a little fright.... Been driving the wife's Jazz CVT off and on for awhile the I-shift isn't anyway near as smooth as the Jazz which is by far the finest auto box I've ever driven but its nowhere near as bad as the motoring journo's would have you believe. Might give the manual mode a go tomorrow, oh the joys of a company fuel card The other things that I found was the EX with its bigger wheels + tyres rides more firmly than the ES I-Shift I test drove but it sticks to the road like glue although must remember its not the HRV when I tackle those pesky mini roundabouts that pepper the neighbourhood. Other things to get use to is the really fast steering rack, the information overload if you choose to pay attention to all the different displays and finally the urge to keep it clean Key hilights so far The sat nav works great, unlike other ones I've used if you know what you're doing and decide to take an alternative route it doesn't complain tell you to turnaround and generally badger you, instead it just recalculates and carries on.... cool.... The dual zone climate control is also fantastic allows me to stay cool without the missus complaining about how cold it is in the car And a question Is the front door handles on the EX different from the others in the range or have Honda redesigned them? They felt a lot more solid than the ones on the car I test drove... Oh Dave before I forget congrats and glad you're enjoying your new car as much as I am and I know what you mean about the driving position vis-a-vis a Jazz. |

I was out and about in the car today, but not in Bicester, saved you a wasted trip. I was playing with the voice controls on the sat nav, they are great, but I think I need to learn the commands.

davc, I was thinking about your comment re the boot, it is more than likely the weather, you really have to swing on the handles on the inside of the boot to shut it in the hot weather, the heat will create more pressure in the struts so they want to stay open, you will find on a cool morning that the boot will not rise as quick, I know this from bitter experience, I opened the boot, turned round to pick up my laptop and briefcase, turned and put it in the boot and WALLOP, head introduced to boot lid with some pace.
On a similar line, has anyone else noticed how when you open the boot after rain it takes forever for the water to drain away, and always finds the middle of your back to drip on. Might have to keep a cloth in the boot once the weather turns. Already bought a squuedgy for the rear window just in case. |

Cheers for that...I've been walloping it down since, and it's now closed (i did 10 miles with it on the latch yesterday wondering...why is that "i" light on just there!! I've started the manual now!) I did spot some sort of gunk in the latching mechanism though, possibly a SupaGuard remnant, and have wiped that off too to see if it does any better!
BTW, the front seatbelt indicator when on the multi-funciton display...does it change with a person in the car, as so far ours hasn't! The rear ones seem to change just not the front...although I imagine reading the manual will help with that! Regards Dave |

Stretch, glad you're enjoying the 'spaceship' experience
I found that in fully automatic the car changed gears to quickly and so never really took advantage of the 2.4 engine. I must admit though it really was a doddle to drive. In manual, I never really used the lever, just the paddles. In fact, I really only used the right (up) paddle and let the car do the change downs. One word of warning though. The paddles in mine make a pleasing click when used, but about a year ago the right one went 'funny' and it would only work by clicking the bottom part of it - probably not gonna be a problem on a Honda, just down to the build quality of my FIAT. Dealer quoted some ridiculous price to fix it, so I just ended up driving it more and more as an automatic. Come to think of it - it's going to be weird having to change gears! On the odd occasion I've driven my wife's car I just coast up to junctions in whatever gear and then try to pull away without doing anything. glh1508 |

I plumped for the CDTi really because of the reviews and the mpg - thought it was the best mixture of performance and economy for me.
Ta very much for the link, but I think that's just the splash screen at start up - I'm going to need a constant reminder. Now if I could programme the audio on the Sat Nav...that would be cool!! glh1508 |
