Advice Req'd - Civic 2.2 EX (Supply Probs)

Hi

First post here, live from sunny Dorset

Placed an order yesterday with local dealer for Civic 2.2EX 5Door + Leather + Sunroof + Met Paint + 18" Alloys + Parking Sensors etc.. Managed to get a discount of approx £650 off list (would'nt get near Drvice the Deal / Broadspeed etc) and reasonable PX against my MkV Golf GT tDI Was showing on screen in dealer as late June delivery

Taken a call fromn dealer today saying that my chosen colour (Galaxy Grey) is now showing as STC-Subject To Confirmation. Dealer says that this means the June allocation is used up...

I'm told I'll have to choose another colour. Believe that Alabaster Silver and Blueish Silver are available for June still.....

Am I within my rights to cancel if they cannot supply colour I require.

In addition, was a 650 discount a reasonable deal or are there better to be found else where

Look forward to the reply

Hi!

£650 is pretty low - I managed to get about £1700 off through autobytel on the same spec. Having said that I would look into the price they offered you for the PX. Mostly they jsut get a price online and unless you are really getting and extra £1000 or so for your old car I would reconsider.

I'm not sure what your rights are wrt cancelling but I think that not even being able to give an ETA on delivery would be.

The one thing I would urge you to do is wait for or shop around for the colour you really want. I took a second choice colour on my previous car and although I liked it I was still pretty gutted each time I saw the colour of my choice drive by me!

Good luck - let us know how it goes.

There seem to be problems with supply FULL STOP. Mine was supposed to arrive at dealer yesterday but they cant even give me a date now the ETA is 6th May, I've also read of other people being set back.

When I spoke to the dealer yesterday he said Honda cant keep up with the demand, to be blunt they just arent making enough cars for the demand.

Bare in mind if you cancel, you wont get the colour you desire anywhere else and will go to the bottom of the queue again.

I'm not sure but i think when you place an order you have 72 hours to change your mind, after that though your pretty much stuffed for at least your deposit.

hmmm, not sure. The order was placed for a specific colour and at that time delivery was to be June, that to me is a fundamental part of the order. If the dealer/Honda can't fulfill any part of that order (including the colour and/or delivery date of the car), then I'm sure the dealer will be forced to release the deposit and cancel the order.

Would like to know the legal standpoint if somebody knows it.

Obo - AFAIK the different dealerships all get an allocation based on their own pre-orders (based on their own sales forecasts). Other dealers should have access to their own allocation so you may get something else somewhere else.

I guess an exception may be with the dealer chains like cloverleaf, inchcape, etc. who may have inter-showroom sharing set up (?)...

You could go shopping around for a better delivery date but you may end up with the problem that you get another false promise made which in turn sets you back even further.

You should fight for something extra off the car definetly.
I originally ordered mine in Red and paid the deposit only to be told 2 days later that red would be near impossible to get.

We then agreed on NHB but I refused to pay the extra for the paint as this was a 2nd choice and he had taken my money based on my original order.

He did! Keep pushing them, and maybe try for the spare wheel too while your at it!.

I'm sure legally you can cancel your order because the dealer cannot meet the requirements you specified when you placed the ordered and the agreed ETA.

Also how did you place you deposit? If you paid by credit card then you should get the credit card company to fight on your behalf.

I would agree that you should think twice about settling on a second choice colour as someone suggested earlier... You are paying good money so why should you settle for something not exactly to what you want?

My advice is don't rush into it think about it as you will need to live with the colour you choose. I'm sure you can get the spec you want elsewhere.. I know when I rang drivethedeal they were about to supply a galaxy grey straight away whereas other dealers didn't have any.

Thanks for the advice

Dealer rang this morning wanting to know my decision

Decided to stick to my guns

Advised that as I ordered Galaxy Grey that is what I wanted and that I was not bothered if the delivery date went back. Told him I had ordered at a price and that was what I would pay.

Some mention of P/X going down in value etc but told them "no way" saying that is their problem and not mine.

He told me order if definitely on the Honda system just waiting for a date.

I wonder whether they were trying to get me to change colour to protect their margin as presumably my P/X will decrease the longer I have to wait beyond intial date (but thats their problem IMHO)

Presume this was the right thing to do........

Hey rugbyref,

I would say you did the right thing. As I said earlier you'll be so glad yu got your choice of colour when you finally get it. Also - having them absorb the PX loss means they have an incentive to get it to you quicker - and they will probably be on Honda's back even more than they are now (if at all).

Keep us updated!
