Ok, just put my car in today for a service after I have done about 10k miles in just over 6 months since I bought my 09 2.2 es civic from them.
They said the rear brake disc had corroded and needed replacing and that would be £195 for the parts (no pads). Does this seem a little pricey? Could this be considered under warranty? Surely 6 months from purchase doing motorway miles wouldn't cause this? Going to go in tomorrow and see them if anyone's got any advice? Cheers Last edited by mysterydave; 28th July 2011 at 20:48. |

Before you do anything, take the car to your local friendly tyre and brake company before you visit the Dealership.
They will check it out for you and if a new one is really needed, they will most likely be cheaper. I have been there and seen it, when some dipstick at the Honda Dealership told me that the pads needed replacing, only to find that the head mechanic told him he was talking rubbish and had over 50% wear left. He was sacked. |

same happened to mine, i had hardly done any mileage and the discs were heavily corroded and pitted in 12mths.
I have recently replaced with EBC sourced grooved discs and green stuff pads and the improvement is immense, and I know that the disc's will not corrode so quickly. I think though it is advisable to replace pads at the same time as doing the discs though |

Thanks for the advice. I'll go in and see what they say, the pads are about 25% worn so I thought I might as well try and save a little bit of money and keep them.

When the car was in for service last week. I mentioned that both rear discs were badly scored. New discs & pads replaced under warranty after 23,000 miles. No quibble Result?
The service did cost £290 for basically an oil & filter change. |

I think 190 is a very steep and it is within 3 years as well. Go and complain to Honda UK, you might get something, doesn't hurt to ask.
Normally you put new pads with new disc, at least that's what I was told. The service is very expensive, 80 something for the engine oil alone. I bring my own oils and Honda parts to the dealer and the one I use is happy to do that. I had scoring disc as well at the near side rear, the shocking thing is they told me it is fine as if it is the norm, expected... |

Yikes £190!!!!!! Buy these:
Can't get link to work but search Ebay for "honda civic rear mintex" - £58 for discs AND pads and then either DIY or pay someone an hours labour. Better than OEM too. Last edited by scotstu20000; 2nd August 2011 at 21:04. |

Assuming it's a Honda dealer that £195 won't include fitting - it'll be £260 all in. I just had my rear discs and pads replaced at a small garage for £130, which seems a bargain compared to the Honda price. I'm no expert but I've heard that brakes need regular use to stop them from corroding, with the lack of braking with motorway miles maybe that would explain?
