Dealership lost my service book...
Yep - a classic I've heard many times before and thought it would never happen to me! Not long after buying my FN2, the non-Honda dealer lost it when they took it from me to put a stamp in it for a service they carried out before the car was sold to me.
I'm fuming to say the least and because of my even more shoddy memory - I can't remember if its had 4 or 5 services. It's definitely had 3 or 4 official Honda services stamped in it plus the one the non-Honda dealer put in there. If I'm being honest the service they will have carried out I doubt will be in line with what should be done for an FN2 (especially if it was the 4th service) and being the paranoid bugger I am, I want to ensure the services are as they should be. So after taking this up with them, they ordered a new book and stamped it for the service they carried out and then told me it may be worth me checking with Honda UK to trace it's other services. Now maybe I was being unreasonable, but THEY lost my book and surely THEY should be the ones doing this to do their utmost to replace something which in fairness cannot ever match the original! This so far has taken nearly 2 MONTHS from losing it and they STILL have my service book and claim they are chasing Honda UK. Now maybe someone can give me some more advice as to what to do next? I'm currently putting together a written complaint with copies of all the emails and phonecalls made to them and intend to send this in along with a letter from TDI North that states the cost and work to be carried out on a 4th service. At the very least I'm seeking compensation from them to pay for a 4th service at TDI North. Am I being unreasonable? Thoughts and views welcome - anything I can add as ammunition to the firefight will be welcome - I'm standing my ground on this one as they have done nothing but messed me around and lost a critical document to what is a performance car! |

I don't think your being unreasonable. I would be f***ing fuming as so many people nowadays check the service history when buying a car so in a way they will have basically devalued your car.
I would be demanding that they be the ones to chase Honda UK to get the rest of the book stamped up as it should be and also to pay for the 4th service at a reputable company such as TDI North. Stick to your guns with this one and make them think about taking a bit more care with stuff like this. |

Well I'll see what the dealership come up with from Honda UK in terms of the service book, and then I'll finish my letter of complaint to Honda UK separately from my issues with the dealer - at least then I know exactly what I want Honda UK to do about the situation.
I'm happy to sort my service book problems out with Honda UK direct who have previously been very helpful I found. This is assuming that the dealer cannot satisfactorily replace and re-stamp the verified history. Most main dealers I've dealt with previously have been happy to re-stamp and fill in a service book should they have it on record and this is what I want the dealer I bought the car from to do. Undertaking the 4th service at a reputable trader like TDI North is the compensation I want from them for the inconvenience. |

Understand your frustration and its a valid point that a full service history contributes to the value of the car.
If they cant get the book stamped up correctly i would ask for a letter confirming that they lost your book and that the service history was fully up to date. I cant see them paying for your car to be serviced by TDi over what i am sure they would consider only to be a minor incident. Good luck. |

PM sent!
Cheers Dan. I agree they may not wish to pay for a full service - but assuming they couldn't have replaced my book stamp for stamp, I think it's the only fair thing that can be done to give me some peace of mind. I'll be paying for the service anyway, but having gone from having a car with a FSH, to a car with no proof of FSH through no fault of my own isn't what I'd call a minor incident in my eyes. I genuinely couldn't sell the car for anything near what it's worth as people will not be comfortable going on 'my word for it' - or even a letter from a dealership for that matter. I myself have turned down cars when I realised there is no solid proof of a FSH - particularly when we're talking performance hatchbacks. |

Inbox is fully matey but cheers for that Dan - I've managed to get in touch with the previous owner who has kindly offered to check what dealer, dates and costs he spent on the car services (which should fill in the blanks).
He has also offered to send on some invoices / receipts which he has found in a pile of old paperwork... So HOPEFULLY I may be able to piece everything together... Seriously though - thanks for checking for me! The car itself has been faultless and there are no issues with it other than the usual stonechips on the front which I'm hoping to touch up nicely this week and polish out... just can't believe they lost the book! I should have taken a photo before they took it to stamp it! Thanks again |

Tooting for a weeks break. Thought I would be up there last week, to pick up my old man. He was very worried about the riots getting close, but he wouldn't leave his home. |

Nothing since as the brave little 'ganstas' obviously lost their bottle when it looked like it might become a fair fight, not one hoody seen since. tbh, am sick of the place, england as a whole, this has been brewing for years and anyone who lives in this sort of area has seen it bubbling away. |
