Quality issues...

Hi,

Before ordering, I am a bit concerned about the product quality.

Almost all products have problems early on, which is why I did not even consider buying the new Civic last year (I would not buy first year of any car).

The Civic is not alone with having problems, I hear problems from owners of most types of car....

Compared to other cars, is the Civic any worse do you think?

How many of the problems are known to have been fixed?
(rear shocks, fog lights etc etc)

FWH,

For a definitive answer, have a look at the survey results. You can filter them down to 2007 cars only, if you wish.

Thanks for that link Pottsy.

Overall, I think these number are pretty good.
90%+ in many cases.

My understanding is that the worst ones like the fuel filler cap and rear shocks should be sorted on new cars.

And I would suspect that people on this forum are more than average prone to identifying problems.

Thumbs down

Depends somewhat on your expectations.

My 2003 Civic coupe was, perfect on delivery (new) and had not a single fault or unscheduled dealer visit in 3 years. No rattles, still looked good condition after 3 years.

My 2006 Civic CTDI had a few faults on delivery, and had so far had three unscheduled dealer visits.
It is still waiting a software fix from Honda that the dealer cannot get out of them to fix the 'check system' coming on repeatedly.
The suspension is noisy, it crashes and bangs
There are several rattles developing.
The trim looks worn in parts after 1 year.
The paint chips easily.
The voice control and HFT are poor
The radio is poor

In all - its a lovely car in many ways, but you are right - QUALITY ISSUES let it down badly.

I'm pretty happy with my 12 months with Millie.

My main gripe is the lack of storage power in the battery.

It has let me down too many times!

Other than that......nice car mister!

You know, I think poor quality is standard in new cars...
Whatever make.
They just don´t build them like they used to.

Which is why I am keeping my 15 year old Merc estate as well..
That is a solid car.
And it has a 100 Ah battery!

Maybe Toyota has quality, but what good is quality when the car is so boring that you are guaranteed to fall asleep at the wheel?
All fun cars fall apart!

Have you considered fitting a charger to Millie?

Angry

FWH may well be right - quality of new cars overall may well be poor.

What - however is galling about Honda - is that they were (at least I and many others think so) a Company that cared about quality.

The Gen 8 Civic demonstrates that now Honda UK anyway couldn't care less - as others have said - we've got the money, let the customer stew.

People have:

Poor paint
Poor radios
Flat batteries
Poor I shifts
Noisy suspension
Rattly trim
Software bugs
Handbrake problems

and many other issues

Some dealers try hard, some less so.

Honda UK - Couldn't care less - doesn't acknowledge faults - claim they have never heard of problem before, promise fixes they don't deliver.

If anyone from Honda Japan reads this Forum - take a long look at Honda UK Quality Management and Senior Management ......... and fire them - before whats left of your formerly excellent reputation is lost.

But the global Honda website says:

Basic Principles
Respect for the individual. The Three Joys (buying, selling and creating)

Company Principle (Mission Statement)
Maintaining a global viewpoint, we are dedicated to supplying products of the highest quality at a reasonable price for worldwide customer satisfaction.

WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT??

I totally disagree since 1st March 2006 I have friends who have bought many brand new cars, Focus, Yaris, BMW, Astra, Saab, Merc A Class and none of them have had to go back and forth like I have with the Civic, they all laugh at me. When things go wrong now at work etc I get the standard joke now "it must have been made by Honda" its embarrassing

Sorry TC to disagree with you for once but I'm used to say/here when something go wrong "It must have been designed and made by Peugeot"

Saying that I've been disappointed by the Peugeot quality is an understatement. The only good point was that I've had a very good relationship with the dealer (The Company I was working for has build the garage, and most of our Vehicles where coming from them...) and that he did strongly insist that I take the 5 Years "maintenance" contract. The real problems started when I moved (to get married ) and so change the dealer... Not the same service any more and so on

Most of the Customer service are helpful for minor case : Key n° lost, radio code lost (I'm still waiting an answer from Opel since two weeks for my wife car !) and so on but when you have real problems like the one you've met or like geoff or others on this Forum, Nobody is answering. And that's not only Honda or Peugeot policy.

Does anyone know about any reviews stating the quality/reliability of the Civic compared to other cars?

Or is it too new yet?

Cheers, for that.

As the problem just wont go away, I've got myself a 'battery conditioner' type charger from Halfrauds and, when I remember, I bung it on and everything is Hunky Dory.

Just annoyed that I have to.

I got a £20,000 motor that only goes 'cos I bought a £40 charger!

......but when it goes!

I don't know anyone with a Peugeot so can not comment!!

But I do know that I am the only one out of all those with new cars that have had issues, my neighbour was asking me the other day how my car was going and said that her eleven year old son had commented that he didn't know why I just didn't buy a courtesy car !! Well she thought it was funny

Here in Sweden the big sellers are Saab and Volvo, and I have heard of many bad issues on new cars from both. But even Mercs, BMWs etc.

I would not admit to knowing any Peugeot owner either!

Yes I know this odd feeling telling us "Oh my god, I must drive my car today, what will happen to me ?" or "By the hell, why on the X thousand owner of this model why all the problems the others are on MY car..."

I didn't mean only one with the Civic - cos of course that would be a silly suggestion I mean't out of all the other makes amongst friends and neighbours.

I have become clever in where I park etc now, for instance when I go to the school I have started parking in a nearby church car park (after checking with vicar) in supermarkets I really do park away from any sign of danger (trolleys, people, cars etc) and a couple of times have abandoned a shopping trip because I didnt like the car park lol and the other day I parked a couple of miles away from the hospital I had an appointment at and walked the rest of the way just so I didn't have to park my now scratch free car in the sardine style car park

I am happy that all other problems with the car are either fixed or about to be fixed but I wish now I had kept a log of all the dates etc that i had a courtesy car and why it would have made interesting reading - I could have written a book "My Life owning a Honda Civic"

now now TC ( we have established that the dealer saw you coming - sorry couldn't resist that) but what stories have you been telling your work colleaguesI think a trip to London is in order to put you straight for once and all and to explain that whilst your friends may be perfectly happy
there are far far more unhappy Focus, Yaris, BMW, Astra Saab, Merc A Class owners in this world than there are Civic owners

I could go on but being the Gentleman that I am I think you get my drift

No stories - the fact that I am often having to go in to work late after dropping my car off to Honda and the fact that it is more than obvious I am driving a courtesy car speaks for itself!
