Which Civic to buy?
Hello, im new to this site but am really impressed with the amount of useful info on this site.
The dilema i have is which civic to have as my next company car? I can either go with the 2.2 ES or the 1.8 EX. I am tempted to go with the EX for the extras you get. I will only cover circa 10k miles a year. Advice please people... |

I would go and test drive them both as its largely down to personal taste and I suppose it depends on what sort of driving you are doing motorway or country roads. We had a TDi golf at work and you cant beat it for performance, but I just love the high reving vtec motor, and the harder ride of the type s, so thats what I went for.
Have you compared the different tax bands for the 2.2 and 1.8? |

Well if the engine isn't too important to you, go for the EX. I do sometimes kick myself for not getting all the toys. The sunroof on the ES is the only feature really missing from the stock EX. It also looks really funky with the lighter colours.

Cheers,
With regards to tax, there isnt a great deal of difference in them, well not enough make me jump one way or the other. The miles i do will be mostly country roads and town driving with a couple of motorway trips every few weeks. I think i will go for the 1.8 EX with the extra toys. Im going for a test drive them both though. The reason for asking is that nearly every review says the 2.2 is so much better than the 1.8 and that the diesel is the only engine to have? |

Welcome !
10.000 Miles a year is a barely economically justification for the Diesel, but the confort of the motor is a good justification ! |

I'm bias but I'd get the diesel everytime.
The only reasons why I wished I'd of gone for the EX is for the 17" alloys (although a firmer ride) and the HID lights (are they really that important though?!). I love my ES, with its funky roof and the minor mods I've done to it. The only other things (IIRC) of note missing from the EX spec is Sat Nav (already bought Tom Tom relatively cheeply) and the hands free (can get that installed at Halfords for £100). Bear in mind the sell on value as well - I think the 2.2 will arguably have a higher sell on value (prob not much though) due to the bigger engine (I may be completely wrong there so feel free to correct me). |

Hi all
I am in tough choice too The thing is that i want i-shift so my wife can drive sometimes and take the car home, especially when i am on few drinks. I don't drive drunk, not a chance. And evenings we go out quite often. So that leaves me without 2.2 option ... In my country from this month dealers start offering the type-S. There is no such thing as type-S GT or similar, just standart type-S. 3 doors, no panoramic glass roof, Climatronic is option, Xenon is option, No leather ... when i put all this to a base type-S the price gets affordably close to a 1.8 Executive with Leather and all stuff + i-shift of course. I dont need navigation, i have a tomtom and navicom navigator and they just lack coverage here. I have a little daughter, 6 years old ... that makes us three members of family. Maybe the 5 door is a better choice. Is the 3 door type-S so much better in terms of driving than 5 door. And is the 5 door (how to say ... Tough choice to make ... Thanks in advance. |

I changed from 1.8 ES to 1.8EX with glass roof and wished I'd bought the EX from the start [although to be fair it originally didn't come with the option of a glass roof]. The sat nav is amazing - far better than the phone based one I used in the past. I have already saved many minutes if not hours because of its link to the TMC [traffic master channel] that meant the sat nav rerouted me because of traffic jams. A friends Land Rover Discovery hasn't got that!
Just wish it warned of speed cameras... |

It's dearer, smellier and noisier. The EX has most of the toys you need, and you know that you really need them. Any one of them there Space Ships will set your heart a racing. Go for a drive, check out your wallet. ......check out the colours. ......Enjoy!!! "I'm not scared of dying I just don't fancy being there when it happens!" Charles H |

Cant really say anymore than my learned friend Charles has said.
Personally I do slightly less milage than you but couldnt justify the diesel on the 7-8k I do. I love my EX and went for it cos I knew if I'd got the ES I originally wanted I would always be thinking what if .. . |

Right ive placed my order for the 1.8 EX in KHB as my company car! It could take a while to arrive as the office will take forever a day to get it all processed.
I just wish I had the 18" Storms on. I could pay the optional extra myself but whats the point when I have got to hand the car back in 3 years. Thanks for all your advice and im now hooked to the website. Does anyone know of any tasteful Mods that can be added to the car, that could be taken off when the car goes back. The blue LEDS in the rear interior light looks good from looking at the other threads so that will be changed over on the day of delivery |

You could always get the 18" storms yourself and put the 17's back on when you hand it back in 3 years on the basis that you will love it so much you'll want another anyway!!!

Hardly cost a penny but they turn the car into a proper Space Ship. The Honda's own footwell LED's are a little pricey, so check out this site and do your own. As for the wheels, why not try another company altogether and be real different! "Is life really weird, or is it just me?" Charles H. |
