When I ordered my Type S GT beginning of May I really wanted black, I could have had red, blue, or silver in a week, but black would be 2 months, needless to say I went for black because If I am going to spend 17k on a car I don't want to be thinking 'if only I had waited a couple of months...'

And I should be picking it up on monday

Other than the satnav, I didn't think the EX had that many extras over the ES. ES has rain sensing wipers, dual-zone air-con, cruise control, auto-headlights, front fogs, electric folding mirrors, leather steering wheel. Over and above, the EX, from what I can see, only has satnav and bluetooth, self-levelling headlights and headlight washers. All-in-all, the ES has (at least what are to me) the essential extras. The only thing I'd miss on the ES would be the headlight washers, plus you get a sunroof as standard in the ES. EX might have a little extra power on the same wheel size, but nothing that can't be levelled with a superchip

If you like the Civic more in black than in red then ES - good choice, and you won't be kicking yourself for 3 years every day you walk to your car.

Cheers for all your advice...this is truly the best website for help and advice on the new Civic!!!
Black ES is the best choice. You can do without all of the EX goodies anyway. I have Garmin for locations that I'm not familiar with, but it usually lives hidden away and unused. All the other things are just toys anyway. Happy Driving.

I think I might have gone for the Black ES, before I ordered I was gonna go for the ES with leather cos I didnt think I could afford the EX and leather was more important to me than the extras on the EX without.

Everyone likes black although it's not the most practical and the red is one of those colours you love or hate, personally I think it looks lovely but would much rather have black myself so I think Binchy made the right decision.

got to agree with the es choice why would you want headlight washers they dont even do what they say on the tin waste of time, yes i prefer the alloys ,and as far as sat nav goes fit a tom tom and when you change your car you can take it with you .Self adjusting headlights ? why what a gimmick, you pay your money and pick your choice but for me the glass roof as standard on the es outweighs everything else on the ex

headlight washers are there on the EX because the EX gets the Xenon headlights, and washers are therefore a legal requirement

Ditto the self-levelling

Binchy - check out the gallery section, and you can sort by the car colour to get all the red Civic threads together - I'm sure someone in there has a spoiler

I know I am biased somewhat but I have always thought red is the best colour on the Civic. Up til recently (and the Type-R arriving) there haven't been many in red and I think the particular shade of red looks particularly good.

Have had a few black cars (including my last one) and whilst they look stunning immediately after being washed/polished, they look dirty amazingly quickly and are a nightmare to get clean. Also, black tends to make cars look a bit smalled IMO and this doesn't suit a Civic which already doesn't look that big.

When I ordered mine, it was a stroke of luck that they had one in stock in Red as I would have ordered that anyway.

Its all personal preference though, and I'm sure the legion of NHB owners would vehmently disagree with me

I can see where your coming from Minkster. Well i put my car on hold untill tomorrow (Wednesday), but think im going to change my mind again. Ive seen another EX in Red with the Red Boot Spoiler and ive got to admit the car does quite sporty/ sexy!!!

My current car is Black and I can never keep that clean so why have another?? And Minkster is right...you dont see many around...so i think i will join the "Exclusive" Milano Red owners!

I think Binchleys made the right choice too! As its a company car, your ax liability will be less - this was the main reason for choosing an ES (in black!) over the EX. I can get a portable sat nav unit seperately and claim this back on expenses and avoid paying tax on it for three years...

Enjoy your car - mine arrives in September

Had black ES. Good, but now have red EX and no comparison!
The colour screen gives not just sat nav, but traffic conditions and more flexible audio functions.
Alloys are better too.
Couldn't go back to ES now.
