servicing in other places

hi there. i have just found this site although i have owned the civic for about 8 months now.. thanks to the person who started this as it has been extremely helpful!! at least i know i am not imagining all the rattles..

wanting to ask if anybody would recommend having the car serviced by somebody else and not by Honda itself coz maybe a second opinion would help with regards to the sqeeks and rattles that Honda can do nothing about (albeit having changed both rear shock absorbers).. i may have missed out on the honda happiness as the option was NOT given to me.. my car is due for service as its an 06 model (was a showroom model)

thanks for any advice..

Prices can vary from dealer to dealer

so may be worth shopping around

think our dealer is actually one of the more reasonable ones

Unhappy

Mine goes in for its 1st service (4th dealer visit) tomorrow. Apart from service - there is a worryingly long list to attend to;
  1. Grey plastic trim coming away front nearside wheelarch.
  2. Voice control - no beep on 'press to talk' anymore.
  3. Fuel filler - not been in for this before
  4. 'Check system' permanently on (3rd time for this) - told software update awaited from Honda last time.
  5. Exhaust rattles BADLY at idle somewhere rear offside.
  6. Rear suspension knocks and creaks - esp 1st thing in the morning - shockers done once already -lasted 3 months then same symptoms again.
  7. Front suspension crashes and bangs on bumps - yellow bump stop detached.
I'm really getting rather fed up with all these problems. Its a lovely car to drive, but regrettably poorly developed in some areas, poorly made, and with poor quality components I'm afraid. Not a patch quality wise on either of my two previous Hondas which were both excellent.

Well - service was carried out today - at a cost of £240.86 Its a pretty dismal tale I'm afraid:
  1. Grey plastic trim coming away front nearside wheelarch. - Fixed
  2. Voice control - no beep on 'press to talk' anymore. - Not fixed - hands free working - no answer on why there is no longer a beep. Since it was near useless anyway - I guess I'm not that bothered, but annoying to have paid for something that used to be poor and is now not even working to the books description!
  3. Fuel filler - not been in for this before - 'Latest' mod carried out
  4. 'Check system' permanently on (3rd time for this) - told software update awaited from Honda last time. - Unable to fix - STILL ON - Honda have not yet come up with a fix though there are 'lots' of customers with this problem. Been promised for months but not yet released from factory. Have to live with it until Honda resolve a fix - dealer very sorry - nothing they can do without support from Honda UK (This seems to be a big gripe of dealers)
  5. Exhaust rattles BADLY at idle somewhere rear offside. - Not fixed - Bracket missing (apparently looks like it was never fitted) - needs to go in again when bracket arrives (ordered)
  6. Rear suspension knocks and creaks - esp 1st thing in the morning - shockers done once already -lasted 3 months then same symptoms again. - Not fixed - latest type shock absorbers already fitted - accepted there was some noise - but think may be due to missing bracket allowing exhaust to knock - Agreed to reserve judgment until exhaust issue is sorted.
  7. Front suspension crashes and bangs on bumps - yellow bump stop detached. - Bump stop found detached - re-fitted - apparently a common problem.
I also asked about the radio sensitivity - apparently a lot of customers have complained - and the dealer has passed these on to Honda UK - who ...... wait for it ........ intend to do ........ absolutely nothing!

So - to sum up - pocket £240 lighter, car rattling as much as ever, Check System still on all the time.

Courtesy car a 1.4 Civic which was much quieter than mine from the suspension etc, rode better, and drove very nicely if rather 'gently'.

Ouch - is that the 'standard' 1st service charge for a 2.2 ?

1st service done Wednesday.

I did not have any special problem except the recall for ID plate n° and just a light rattle in the dashboard when I drive on bad roads and I've mentioned a poor RDS AF functions ask them if they have a software update for the radio. Mentioned also the Handbrake problem.

One and an half hour after the car was ready and cleaned. They didn't touch the dashboard (thanks I prefer to clean it myself).
Understood that they've done a mod a the filler cap (why ? I didn't have any problem with)
Check the handbrake with the chief mechanist (I'm the first to report the problem) spend some time to try to recreate conditions but fail)... Cost for one and a half hour work including VAT Recycling taxes, oil and pieces was 185.12 € or 125.65 £

As usual the welcome is very good and the feeling to be a customer and not only an order n° or a paying donkey (like with other dealers) is very satisfactory !

I don't know if all Honda dealers in France have the same quality, but I feel that my next car will be another Honda and I know who I will deal with
