I would almost definately say no to that. I guess the best way to find out for sure is to call your local dealer and ask them. I'm sure that someone will come up with the correct answer.

I think the answer may be yes - when I had my Focus I was told by Ford that any work done to my car should be done by a Ford dealer otherwise it could affect my warranty.
Unless of course this was their way of ensuring I went to them |

Remember though a Ford '3 year warranty' is'nt the same as a Honda '3 year warranty'. The crucial difference is that a Honda has a 3 year maufacturors warranty whereas a Ford has a 1 year manufacturor's warranty and a 2 year dealer warranty - at least thats the way it used to be.

It will not affect warranty as there was a change in the law covering these sorta things . They cannot do this any more.

It is ok I found it in the service book. As long as you use parts that are as good as Honda genuine parts and the work is carried out by a competent technician the warranty remains intact.

I'm not sure on legal side of things, but I bet if there is a fault with the braking system, they could try and use it as a way of not paying out under warranty, especially if you are using aftermarket pads.
However, I was quoted something around £120 - £150 to replace the pads on my Accord by the dealer. My dad is a mechanic, and picked up some aftermarket pads for £12, so was a nice cheap job. They have been on for about 25000 miles now with no problems. |

Very difficult for them to prove as Pads are considered wear & tear parts, same as tyres and thus have certain exclusions from the warranty.
The only problem comes if they are incorrectly fitted by your 'expert' and damage other parts of your car. I can't remember the design of the caliper. If it's like the old Civic where you have to undo the bolt of the floating fist and swing it up then you will need torque settings etc. If it's a removable pin then can't see how anyone marginally competent could mess it up. |

The majority of mainstream car manufactures in the uk have also signed up to the ATA accredited technician scheme which is very similar to the honda way of licenced technicians where practical & written examinations are carried out and have to be retaken every five years to keep your licence current.this voluntary scheme was brought in by the industry themselves before the government forces legislation on the motor industry.http://www.automotivetechnician.org.uk |

servicing if done by a garage of your choice for the warranty to continue they must be vat registered and use genuine honda parts. With regards to the pads if you use genuine parts and do it yourself, how will honda know?its such an easy job i wouldnt pay a dealer to do it i would change them myself

Sorry....I didn't make my earlier post very clear.
I work within a Honda dealership and know about the training/licensing that Honda UK implement and how tough it can be. What I was trying to get over is that this "Licensing" may well become a legal part of a motor mechanics training. I believe Honda UK think this and are therefore well ahead of the game. |
