Is it worth the effort?
Hello, everyone!
I would like to see your opinion on buying a Honda Civic Aerodeck 1.4iS> The car is, obviously, second-hand and available in Germany. It was registered for the first time in 2000 and now has 54.000 km on board. The car has just passed all the technical revisions and it looks fine. Do you know this model of Honda, and if so, could you tell me what would you do if you were in my position? The price is 8300 Euros. Thank you very much! Tudor PS. The link to the offer is the following: http://www.mobile.de/SID-t-K8hviTc8y...1111249253505& I'm sorry if it is too long! |

I would very much recommend the purchase of this car if it meets your requirements. While I didn’t actually own one, I had a lot of involvement with the vehicle in other areas therefore I give you the following opinion.
The Aerodeck was developed in Europe by Honda R&D Europe (U& Germany). It was based on the 98MY 5dr Civic which was jointly developed with the Rover 400. The 5dr Civic was a excellent vehicle of which I have had 2 - both with the 1.4 engine. Apart from zero problems with both, I can say that it was a comfortable vehicle which handled reasonably well and was very forgiving to a young driver who really wanted to go faster than the car was able to. The 1.4 was a very competent engine, while not having a huge amount of power, it rev'd freely, was very responsive and did not seem to get out of breath when pushed hard. The locally developed Aerodeck was a superb addition to the range and the extra 110mm in length gave it even more flexibility. The only issue could be that despite the engines competence, the additional length and thus weight might slow it down a little. However the handling on the Aerodeck is much better than on the 5dr which should make up for it. The suspension was actually developed by a European team and set up to meet European requirements. It had little of the Japanese input that the 5dr's set up received. Therefore I would say that provided you are happy with the condition and history of the car (and of course the price) then you will not find a more reliable small estate car in it's class. Additionally 54,000km is very low and that bullet proof engine is therefore barely run in. Hope that helps. |
