Is it worth changing to the type R?

Hi,

I got my EX last October and am very happy with it but I'm thinking of upgrading to the Type-R in the autumn this year when mine is a year old. Has anyone else done this and if so what kind of difference could I expect between mine and a Type-R, I think I worked out the Type-R GT (I think that's the spec) with SatNav is about £19k but I'm not sure what I'll get for my EX 1 year old around 6k miles?

Also, what is the speed difference really like I mean is it just noticeable or does it blow you away, must admit I'm in two minds over it and will have to have a go and see what I can get for mine.

Mike.

According to the Honda website, the price for the base Type R GT is £18627, the satnav is an extra £1400 on top of that, plus the £375 for the lovely Bronze colour comes to £20402. So a little bit more than £19k.

As to is it worth changing, the only way to find out is to test drive one at your local stealer.
Just remember, the Type R likes to be driven hard

definately a head vs heart decision

head:
You loose the rear middle seat
and the rear doors
and magic seats are less magic
and no Xenons
fuel consumption will be worse
insurance will be more
depreciation on the EX

heart:
it's a Type R - nuff said!

sorry - that probably doesn't help much!

Thanks yeah I appreciate the head over heart situation, but really I was so desperate to get rid of my old car last year I could not wait 6 months I think for a type R at the time. I am surprised about lack of xenon's though, think as you say i'll give it a test drive in December and see how I go and unless it blows my pants off (so to speak!) I'll keep with the Ex.

Lack of xenons (even as an option!) is my biggest gripe
Especially as they get fitted to Rs in other countries!

You should get about the 15k mark for your year old EX with 6k mileage. Personally, I know lots of people here love the R, but i prefer the 'classic' spaceship! I prefer the interior hugely over the R although I can see why the R is loved by many. The outside, the type R does look meaner which is cool, but still I don't think its a huge difference to the classic.

Performance why, many inc. Top Gear prefer the 'classic' overall to the R and it does seem that the R has disappointed a fair few. Also, I feel the spaceship has a hard ride, the type R is meant to be worse. However that said, it is the type R and you will make even more heads turn as you drive around everywhere, so if you love the R that much go down there and get your new baby! This car, you don't buy for all the right reasons, you buy it like you are buying a supercar, because you love it and don't care what anyone else thinks!

Regarding interiors I much prefer the blue light to the red.
I´m to comfortable too drive something like a Type R everyday and I also want the rear doors.

Oh and we get xenons as standard on the Type R GT over here!
