Buy new or used?
Hi can someone give me some sound advice about my Civic purchase please? I want a 2.2 ES but not sure whether I should wait until September to get a used one or order one new outright. Preferably I'd like to get a 57-reg because I recently bought a nice private plate that spells out my newborn's name but rather than order a brand new one I'm wondering how new pre-reg cars Honda will buy come September and whether or not I'd find a 2.2 ES in Galaxy.
What are your thoughts, is it worth paying a premium just to get the private plate on this year or shall I save a few grand by buying used? I've never bought brand new before and would be opting for a dealer or private finance deal. |

I think you will be lucky to find a pre-reg.....!!
This usually ony happens to boost sales figures when the manufacturer wants to shift them "on paper" Most people on here have to wait for the delivery... and it often slips, and for some models can be a considerable time. If you are looking at second hand or saving some cash, you could suss out if the local dealer has a demonstrator..... that`s how i got mine... 3months old and under 3k miles. Watch out for someone privately selling one thats nearly new.... despite the quality being generally good there are a few "problem" ones out there.....<<<<Ducks quickly>>>> |

So lets say I go for a used example - what are the things I need to look out for that were problems? I already know about the condensation in the rear lamps - is there anything else too? Surely the dealer would fix any major problems under warranty?

I bought new a month ago. I was planning to buy used, but here in Ireland due to our ridiculous cc-based motor tax system there are very few 1.8's on the road (and they don't even sell the 2.2 diesel
A month in and I love my Civic |

I'm not too sure about the situation in the UK but over here in Belgium most of the Honda dealers were more or less persuated/obliged to order a 2007 2.2 Diesel Sport version as a demo car. All of these cars were registered in March, have a low mileage (mine had 3000km, 1870mi) and are now for sale with a price reduction of about 10%. Just last Friday, I found one with the colour I prefered (Galaxy Grey) and traded in my 2000 VTEC-E Civic at the same moment: cheaper, no waiting and it looks, feels and smells like a 0 mile car once the honda demo stickers were removed

Fortunately things are going to change in favour of our Civic spaceships because there seems to be an EEC directive stating that the legislators from all member states should switch over to an 'ecoscore' based tax system to promote clean cars. In Belgium, this ecoscore will be based on 3 factors: Air quality, greenhouse gases and noise production, the result is a score from 0 to 100, a higher score means a more environment friendly car. Some examples: 2.2i-ctdi: 67, 1.8-vtec: 66, 1.4i-dsi: 68, hybrid:73, type r: 56 (sorry chaps |
