Questions on new Civic 2.2 CDTi EX
Hi
Firstly what a great site, I have been waiting for something like this for a while now! Loved the topics on the reversing camera and sat nav, found them to be really, really useful...anyway I am contemplating buying a Civic 2.2 CDti as I am in the market for a new hatch. I have looked at the the new Golf, Focus and Civic, and so far the Civic is the only one to have really interested me, so I have a few questions which I hope you can help me with. 1. Is visability that bad all round? 2. Is the ride as firm and uncomfortable as the reviews make out? 3. How does the blue ambient lighting pack look in the car? 4. Are you able to specify leather on the EX models? 5. Have passengers int he rear complained of the small windows, feeling of claustrophobia? 6. How good s the digital dash, and the trip computer? Sorry for so many...and I am sure I will come up with a few more!! Regards |

I'll give it a go: 1. It's only poor in the rear 3/4 view (the C pillar is big). But the mirrors are very good, so you just have to use them instead. It's not the best bit of the car, but it's no problem. Rear vis is poor when parking - the camera or some reversing sensors (Halfords do some excellent ones that are part of a number plate surround) would be a good idea. 2. It's sporty, but no way uncomfortable. Makes it feel like a roller skate, and it corners really flat. 3. Don't have it - didn't see a need really. There is a very cool blue LED in the interior light unit that points down and lights up the central area (it's very dim and on all the time at night, but it really helps). 4. I couldn't, but I think Honda are changing that (the dealer will know). 5. Nope, not at all. 6. Best I've seen in any car (and I've had 5 Porsches, M3, Audi A4, several Golfs, 350z). Any more - let me know! |

Questions on new Civic 2.2 CDTi EX
I must reply because these are the identical questions that confronted me when I considered the Civic
I didn't go for the Golf because it is really a small car, the Focus, I've had two Ghia's before the Civic, but they have changed the spec and the car does not appeal like the Civic does. to answer your other questions 1. The visibilty is fine. 2. The ride is 'sporty' because of the low profile tyres, but I wouldn't say it was uncomfortable except on bad roads 3. Dont know didn't even consider it. 4. See below 5. My wife didn't want the Civic at all because the back seats were claustrophobic. We sat her in a car with the glass roof and she was over the moon. Forget the blue lights and pay the 1200 extra for leather and glass roof you wont regret it. 6. The dash is brilliant, the 'talking car' is fantastic my grandson loves it. My advice is to forget the other two, especially the Golf, if its a 'money thing' the remainder of the two has got to be the Focus, but if its not a money thing get a CIVIC i love mine. |

Agree with all of the above
Indeed the glass roof makes the car interiour spacious Surely if you have the beige interiour In Belgium we can have the beige fabric + heated seats, no need to get the leather. It feels and looks great, some countries do not offer the beige, or only with leather. Great looking interiour! PS I installedd the floor lights because I like installing things myself. It does look great, a soft dim blue in the dark, and lights up fully when door is opened. I recommend it. Last edited by Stef; 30th March 2007 at 11:59. |

I havent got mine yet so cant comment on most points however I can say that I have ordered an EX with leather the plus point of this is that you can only have leather with the glass roof thus you get the feeling of extra space. My parents came on the test drive (I am 29 years old but I felt I wanted an opinion on the back seats plus I was already in love with it and needed an objective opinion) and they sat in the back and both commented on how spacious it felt especially with the roof open!
I recommend a test drive its a lovely car I also recommend taking a couple of people for more opinions (ie the ride in the back etc) I've had 2 focus' now current one is an ST170 and have to say the new one is completely boring compared to the civic Hope this helps |

I regularly have people in the back on long trips the only complaint is the roof is quite low at the very back, windows are fine and it feels roomy (other than above your head). The ride might be a problem if you spent lots of time driving down little tracks full of holes but is fine for normal roads.
The dash is fantastical. |

Anyways, there is plenty of legroom in the back - at 6'3" I can sit behind the driver's seat, adjusted for my driving position, & still have an inch between my knees & the driver's seat. The glass roof opens everything up nicely with plenty of light, & when I had the Type S it wasn't a problem for me parking without any parking aids. Now I have the EX with camera I probably take longer to park cos I'm still adjusting to the camera's warped view of the world... ... & is anybody really listening cos this thread was started almost a year ago & went dead from 12 April last year!! |

My take on things!
1. Is visability that bad all round? No, once you get used to the dimensions of the car and get used to the rear spoiler I find the car no more difficult to manouver than any other. As Pottsy says the large wing mirrors are very useful and give an excellent view. The spoiler does impact a little on rear visability but not to the level that you may have read. It also has the added benefit of blocking out headlight glare....handy! 2. Is the ride as firm and uncomfortable as the reviews make out? Also no, yes the ride is a little firmer than some others but I see this as a positive, the handling is sharper and more responsive. On a poor road any car would struggle but the Civic soaks up most minor bumps and imperfections. 3. How does the blue ambient lighting pack look in the car? I think it looks great, did my own (cheaper) non-official mod, gives it an even more futuristic look. 4. Are you able to specify leather on the EX models? You can now, and the glass roof 5. Have passengers int he rear complained of the small windows, feeling of claustrophobia? Never, had many people in, not one has commented. 6. How good s the digital dash, and the trip computer? Superb, wraps around you, everything you need is easy to reach and operate, the dials are clear, concise and well positioned. This is probably the best feature of the car, love it! |

Visibility is ok i find. Had mine 1 day, and as czechplastik says, takes alittle bit of time getting used to the dimensions.Still getting used to having to use the side mirrors more on motorways as you can't use the " head over the shoulder, check blind spot" technique.
I find the ride absolutley fine but it depends what you're used to...I came from a 106 GTi with 120k on the clock, and if you think the ride in the Civic is firm....!!! Blue lighting...I love it!! Saw it in all its glory last night for the first time. There are definitley cheaper ways of doing it than paying what Honda charge ( same goes for ipod connection) but I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to wiring and DIY! Buy it and you won't regret it! |
