900 mile round trip to pick up Civic!

So that’s me had my last chat with the dealer, Me and the Missus will be heading off on our trek to pick up our 2.2 SE on Wednesday. The trip from Shetland will be as follows:

- 14 hour (Overnight) ferry trip form Lerwick (Shetland) to Aberdeen
- 2hr flight Aberdeen to East Midlands airport
- Get Picked up by the Honda dealer from airport
- Pick up the car (after going over with your “Known fault” Sheet)
- Drive north M1/A1 to Aberdeen via a 2 night stop off in Newcastle!!

Mental! Looking forward to the car though!

....and by the time you get it home, it'll be run in!

Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.

Have a safe trip.

Give us a bell when you get home.

There is, but that's probably in Norway!

And Norweigans are importing Civics from Sweden due to the long lead times in Norway!
And our cars are different spec and have the steering wheel on the wrong side...

Norway would be nice, apart from the Left hand drive and they don't get the Diesel! Their government also puts a 40% sales tax on all new cars too!

Seriously, I am travelling the miles for the discount. Dealers in Scotland live up to the steriotype and refuse to haggle. Lookers Honda in Nottingham have been great (so far........!).

Plus it will be nice to spend a couple of nights on Tyneside!

Actually, I think they do get diesel, which was a surprise to me as we don´t get it in Sweden.

There is a member on the forum from Norway who got or ordered a diesel recently.

The car may be run in, but most of its annual mileage will be done taking it for a service I would think! How many miles of tarmac road do you have access to locally in the Shetlands then?

You could ask them if they collect for servicing

Nearest Dealer would be in Aberdeen - 14 hours by ferry, but servicing can be done by any competent garage and warranty is OK if you use genuine Honda Parts - see Office of Fair Trading document:

http://www.oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/con...ars/oft707.pdf

On the roads thing (I drive about 14k a year, all in Shetland), the Shetland Islands council website says that there are approximately 650 miles of public roads in Shetland, A and B roads, all in fairly good nick compared with your average road “Down South”. Believe me, the roads are quiet and the driving is great!

Good luck

I hope you get good dry weather for the drive home. It's so depressing buying a shiny new car and it getting filthy from driving in the rain 5 minutes later.

I'm envious of that drive home. Keep an eye on that speedo haha

Have a good run home, but watch out for the 13? Gatsos between Dundee and Aberdeen. A wee excess of speed could see you having lost your licence by about Brechin!

Is this the furthest anyone has travelled to pick up their new Civic.

Brechin?

Brechin?

That's where Lady H. grew up.

We even got married in Brechin Cathederal!

You could loose your license where I lost my freedom!

Slow down when you go thro' that bit!

The diesel is indeed available here in Norway, although I have the petrol .But as mentioned we have some horrific taxes on cars. I imported my petrol Civic from Sweden due to availability, and could then easily see the horrific numbers.

This is for a Civic 1.8 5D Sport, NHB, 17" Storms (kept the original 17" for winter tyres) and the City Pack Exclusive

Price in Sweden in swedish curreny SEK: 211.075,-
Price in Sweden ex. VAT (for exporting): 169.010,-

169.010,- SEK is 146.506,- NOK (Norwegian currency)

So I paid 146.506,- NOK to the swedish dealer and picked up the car. Then after crossing the border I had to pay norwegian VAT and other taxes for the amount of 139.140,- NOK to get the norwegian plates. That is almost half! And the car ended up costing me 285.646,- NOK

The taxes are based on engine size, engine power, and CO2 emissions, so you can probably figure out that the taxes goes sky high on bigger cars.

The Civic Diesel cost approx. 35.000,- NOK more than the 1.8 petrol here in Norway

FYI: 1£ = approx. 12 NOK
