You must have the patience of a saint.
The car is already sitting waiting to be enjoyed and you are ignoring it just so you can have a 57 number plate. MADNESS

I know, but having one of the first 57's on the 1 sept on the road will make up for it. (this will be my 3rd new car) Its such a good feeling and worth waiting for...

I cannot understand why you are waiting for the 57 plate change

it does nothing to the value of your car infact
I am surprised the dealer is keeping the car for 3 weeks
did you have a trade in ? ( surely the dealer would have given you
less for it)

In the UK there is a long tradition of indicating the age of the vehicle on the number plate. Current cars have the digits 07, from Sept 1st it will be 57, then 08 etc.

Before the current system, it was a new letter every year, A, B, C etc.

So waiting a couple of weeks will make your car look newer.
Good for resale value and showing off down the pub.

I´m glad we don´t have that problem!

It's a posing thing
Our number plates have two digits within them that signify the rough date the car was purchased.
At the moment, all cars registered have 07 in the middle of the plate.XX07 XXX.
This changes every 6 months, and the next change is Sept when this changes to 57. XX57 XXX

So on the 1st March and 1st September, if you have the new plate, everybody knows you have a brand new car.

Yes, I know, us Brits are a sad bunch

You could go for a cheap personalised jobby with no year association.

I must agree though, getting an 07 when 57 is only a few weeks away seems illogical captain.

I'm with you on this one, and am going to visit my new baby this week. She arrived a few weeks ago, but I'm waiting until Sep 1st for her. She'll be worth the wait. Milano Red of course

Sorry but I would not leave my car sitting in a dealers compound
for 3 weeks or more

I am still surprised the dealers are allowing this

The 'Look I've got a new car effect wears off very quickly

Agree with Brodick !

We do have the same in France about 10 years ago... but mentality have changed when the rules has change. Before the car year's start in July ! (French Logic ) so nobody was ordering car with a delivery date May/June/July because they ask for a new Millesim car... Yet the car year start the 1st of january and people don't bother anymore about that ! They just ask for quick delivery !

Infact just come back from the dealer to look at paperwork/finances/part ex etc and he is more than happy for it to be sitting there as it gives them longer to prep it (they had cars everywhere! very busy) he said something like I am pleased your picking up in sept its helping us out.......
