Picking up next week new 5 door diesel sport vivid blue.

Hi im picking up our new car next week just wandering we havn't bought any servicing packages as yet, prices seem to fluctuate we are planning on keeping the car. How does the warranty work if we have the car serviced by our honest uncle? any advice please

Also in our local dealership they were displaying a poster giving us free servicing for 3 years in august , but when we asked our dealer they refused us the free servicing as we have had a £1400 discount on the new car and 5% flat on our finance however the poster doesn't state anything to challenge any discount. Please help

According to European law, the warranty cannot be affected by service work done by a VAT registered mechanic as long as
a) All the service work items are undertaken
b) Any parts used must be of equal quality

That said, you may have to work hard to prove those as the initial reaction from the dealer will usually be "no". Details from the OFT here

On the second point, I would either speak to HUK or else ask the garage to justify why they are advertising something that they won't honour - be careful as it might say in tiny (tiny) print "See conditions for details" and there may be pages of those!
