Yes, but some dealers will deliver your car to your home a day or two before, providing you have 'off road' parking and your insurance covers it. It helps them because of the 1st rush, and helps you as you can give the car a good check over.

I did this once and as the clock struck midnight I drove off my drive in my new Rover SD1 and proceeded down the A1 when I thought "this is daft; I'm in a brand new car and anything could go wrong and I'll be stuck down the A1 in the early hours".....still fun though.

Some will but I think the novelty is wearing off now.

I had a "G" reg Maestro delivered [1988] a day early because I had a driveway. PDI was attrocious with so many bits wrong. Eventually got it sorted:

Carburettor dashpot top screw in damper missing
3 areas of badly touched up paint
Maestro sticker on gear selector hanging off
Leaking expansion tank (3 replacements before they got one that didn't leak under pressure)

I've never really seen the point of this. Who's actually going to be about to see you driving your shiny new motor in the early hours?!!

I got it for me, I dont care who's about to see me i actually prefer driving early in the morning or late at night,But i put that down to starting work at 3.30am plus you also dont get the normal muppets in front off you.

How long does the process of collecting the car take, I'm going to px my old car but that should only take 5 min's i guess they dont check the car over like a private sale.

I think the new number plate thing is old hat nowadays
especially with so many private plates around

you feel more special if you drive an all new model within the first
few months of its launch (despite the problems that may come with it being an all new model)

I feel special when I am driving our Civic but feel even more special
when I am driving the CR-V as it has only been out for 8 months or so

So do I, we don't have plates indicating years etc but I asked a few people, their response was the same as mine i.e couldn't care less and it means absolutely nothing!

Unless they are busy and want to make decent time for you? Rather than be rushed.

i.e you go down @ 10am and be seen fairly swiftly or arrive at your own time and have to wait ages.

Makes sense to me.

Talking about private plates reminds me of an article I read in the paper earlier this year.
The writer thought private plates were stupid and pointless, each time he seen one it reminded him of that famous spanish driver,Juan Ker.
Having a private plate on my car I found this very funny.

I have a private plate and I like it for me, I couldn't care less what anyelse thinks about it, it helps me find my car when it's a huge carpark (that and the great dent in it ). Mine reads pretty much as my surname reads PAFFETT (P4FET), not bad for 250 quid I thought.Tom

My wife has bought me a Private plate as an early Christmas present for the 2.2 EX I pick up on Friday - It's "JG 57 DYL" (my full name is John Dylan Griffiths - but I've always used Dylan (Dyl for short!)

(Yes I do know what Dyl is also short for!)
