Type R: new or used?
Hi all.
Had my Type S GT 2.2 for 6 months and am getting the urge now to trade it in for a Type R. Bought the diesel as I had a 150 mile round trip commute every day...having moved this has been reduced to 60miles a day. What sort of price do you think I'll get for the S? Its got 18" Blades,Image pack, ambient lighting, co axe speakers and ipod connection. Also, are dealers discounting Type R s at all or should I go for an ex demo? Cheers. |

I got around £300 off my Type R GT in silver which I ordered this week, but have been told that I have to wait around 20 weeks for this colour! An ex-demo won't be much cheaper as they come with a few extras, I thought I may as well then buy a new one. Also a new car wont of been driven by every Dick and Harry!

Just been on DC Cook website and they're offering the GT for 17779...off to Farnham Honda for some haggling tomorrow i reckon...i need to get about 16500-17000 for my S GT which shouldn't be a problem according to Parkers guide....let the haggling begin! |

TBH, if you think you'll have anything less than £1500 to pay on the trade-in and what you can haggle a CTR for, I'd say you're deluded.
Try contacting the dealers with a view to "buying" a 2.2 like you have (or have the wife/a friend do that call). See what money they'd ask for one spec'd like yours. Alternatively, contact them with your genuine reason, but after seeing what price they offer, have another party call about your spec of car - see what the dealer is asking for. Might be able to use that to your advantage. Don't make the enquiring 'spec' specifically yours - i.e, not fussed on colour, must have ipod, 18's, prefer image pack if one has it. |

If it were me, I'd pay the bit extra and get a new CTR. Why? Because the sales rep who brought me on a test drive absolutely abused the car to the point where I asked him what he was trying to do. Revving it to the absolute max in order to 'warm it up' before I drove it. Crazy and stupid. I'm glad I wasn't going to end up with THAT demo...
Bit of a generalisation, I know, but do you want to end up with a turkey? At that price? |

Well,I just got back from Honda Guildford...and you were all right....deluding myself and then some!! They wouldnt budge on the Type R price. But the real p***take came when they offered me the trade in value for my Type S....13500...needless to say I walked then and there.
I do want one, moreso having test driven it today, but I think I'll just have to wait for next year's payrise! |
