Dealer opinion of Civinfo

Okay,so I've been posting all over the shop tonight trying to get my failed Type R buying mission out of my system...
When I was arguing about trade in values today, and believe me I WAS arguing, got very heated,, I mentioned our beloved website and the dealers just rolled their eyes as if to say "Oh, them again".
Just wondered if anyone else had experience of this (perceived) negative attitude to Civinfo?
Probably a silly question but I'm bored, f***ed off and want an NHB Type R today...and I promiees to not to mention it again!

Dealers probably don't like a group of owners sharing experiences. It does not allow them to use the stock phrase of "your the first person with this problem" etc.

Kremmen is right - knowledge is power, this site gives us/buyers the upperhand!

Thumbs down

ok thats an experience I have had with my Yamaha fazer... there were some problems at the begining and I knew of them... the dealer of course did say the same thing... you are the first person with this particular problem... yeaaa rightt.... when I told him about at least 200 owners with the same problem and that there was a recall about the TPS (throttle possition sensor) then he told me that he would check it if it was true... and off course it was... knowledge is power... but at least you are in the uk... in Greece the main dealer is a scumbag... he refuses to at least 2 people I know to change the shocks because of the noise the do (there is a recall isnt there?) or about the radio or about some other things... there is some issue of warranty... so if the dealer wont cooperate and tells you that the faulty accesories of the car are not in the warranty what can you do when you know they are?

Dealers vs Civinfo

It's not an experience I've had, but from the outset I let my dealer know that I was a member of this forum and therefore was aware of the common failings on the Civic - he was fine, and ironed out the few snags I had with my first i-VTEC.

I've only had the 2.2 about 2 weeks and (so far) there's been no problems to address apart from bonnet & boot needing a bit of tweaking (by me) to get the panels to sit flush, but I have no problems with using the shared info from this forum when talking to the dealer about snags and irritations - why should we?

Dealers have several networks of their own to pool info and resources - the fact that customers may have one of their own might get up their nose a tad, but Civinfo forum goes some way to fighting the 'slopey shoulders' response from some dealers when asked to rectify problems.

Lozza:- I don't know what part of Hampshire you're in, but it could be worth straying out of the county (just!) and talking to Horizon Honda in Christchurch - several of us on the forum have cars purchased from them and they seem more enlightened than some......

Thanks for the advice mate. I'm in Alton, but I know Horizon well as I lived in Bournemouth for 18months whilst I was learning how not to crash planes (job). May take a trip down there today.

Well, my faith in Honda dealers has been restored. Have just been to Farnham Honda and, while they couldnt do the deal I wanted for the Type R, they were extremely friendly and did try their haredst to get me a deal.
Thumbs up for Farnham!

I've also seen the negative views of CivInfo, although I can understand to a point why this happens. One example was where they had a few new Civic owners bringing their cars back on the basis of common faults reported on here. I guess frustrating for the dealerships when these people just turn up and their Civic doesn't have the fault but they've turned up anyway!

I guess the dealer can feel a little intimidated if you're pretty clued up on something. I mean I would never try and tell a Doctor or a Surgeon how to do his/her job, so I guess me walking in and telling the dealer how to fix something might be irritating.

An honest dealer has nothing to fear - if the car in question is a 'good one'.

The fact is that dealers know that there are a load of cars with problems (suspension, flat batteries, duff radios, false error messages) etc that Honda UK simply do nothing about. Hence the dealer is trapped between a complaining customer and an uncooperative and unsupportive manufacturer whose lost interest now they 'have the cash'

this forum is fantastic, glad i found it. The info gleaned here helped me sort out my choice of which civic to buy and how to get a good deal on it....

As for negative perceptions...isnt that just an indication of how awesome this site has become, how formidable a presence it has built in its short life already? I say use that negativity to not be pushed around or dictated to on terms not of your choice.

Thanks to Pottsy and all who made this forum what it is!

A lot of dealers won't like it because it's harder to use their techniques and selling tricks on customers who are well informed. However, there are some dealers who have noted that the information age is here and embraced it instead of shunning it, advertising good deals and services on this very forum.

More of them should really get with the program and follow suit.

Most dealers want only to rip off the ignorant masses.
A few actually want to deal with qualified customers.

Those few we like, respect, welcome and do business with.
The others... well that calls for language which is not appropriate on this site.

This site is essential - I can honestly say that before I ordered my Type R I knew more about it than the dealer and that was partly down to the info I got from this site.

This Site has been a blessing to me. I'm still wading through the old posts now and have learned SO much. Many thanks.
So many of you have mentioned "Chips Away" or similar, as being the dogs whatsits.
Can they REALLY make good a stone chip so that it cannot be seen, -- even at say -300mm??.
Only picked the b--ger up on Saturday and have some already.
Bare in mind, I can spot a builders wonky placed brick at 300 metres.

Jack, you may want to read the "Paint quality moan" thread in the Cleaning forum before employing Chips.

Actually, no - watch with interest and see what the outcome of mystamac's handing of invoice to HUK for Chips and Rhino work.
Sounds like Honda don't use either enough layers to protect as well as a clearcoat should or the one they've opted for is woefully cheap, and it's a prime case of getting what you pay for.
